what the crap is proto-emo

WOW I am so confused! I thought an emo was a person that had that cutting themselves sickness.

But I did get a little bit of a hip education by reading this all! ;)
 
I am so too old for all this. You don't believe that? Well, I have no idea at all what the heck you're all talking about as a whole,lol (yes, i got the definitions,lol). Have never gotten what it means if something is so gay, as well, I consider gay as, well, gay,lol.
This thread is nothing if not educational to me. :p

I know! :unsure: But I have a 16 year old, so he keeps me in the loop (as much as an old mom can be :p ) Jacob has some friends that are emo but seriously I think they are more metro than emo. Prissy boys, LOL.
 
I've been getting a laugh out of these posts - music is so fickle when it comes to the categorizations and genres.
I actually listened to emo music before it became a widespread thing - They had a club in the early 90s in Austin called "Emo's" which pretty much played, well, emo music bands. Don't know if it's still there.
But I just love that once a genre gets sub-genred, it's like "not cool" to like the other sub-genres if you like one, when dude - it all came from the same root! Rap, metal, indie, etc. have all split into these subsets and then the death metal fans eschew the goth metal fans and say that it's not "real" metal. And now emo is doing the same thing. Whatever. :rolleyes:

But now I'm wondering if my oldest isn't showering because he's trying to be all emo scene or if he's just lazy. I'm sure it's the later but he has been wearing the same hoodie a lot.

cuz emo has evolved into something different. proto means "before" so technically it's the "before emo"
