@EvelynD2 What a scary thing! I'm so glad everything worked out and y'all are all safe.
It reminds me of when I was just married, and I was going to get off the interstate at "our" exit and get gas after working until almost 9 pm. I ran out of gas on a LONG exit ramp. A station wagon, very beat up, from the 70s or something and I could see that the vehicle was filled with all kinds of stuff. A lady got out from Puerto Rico and became chiding me for running out of gas, and wasn't I happy she stopped. In my nervousness, I ended up locking my keys in my car. This was in no cell phone days.
All the stuff in the vehicle was from her cleaning business. She drove me to my mother-in-law's house. Both of their vehicles were there in the driveway, so she just left me. Their door was locked and they weren't answering the door, so I figured out they were off with someone else. Still, I wasn't able to get to a phone, so I went next door to my MIL's neighbors. They are from Turkey. I couldn't understand half of what they said. They let me use the phone, but I wasn't able to reach Jay. So I called my MIL's sister, who ended up coming with her sister and a gas can. We stopped at a gas station and then we got on the interstate and you know those turn arounds that say "official use only"? Well Aunt Taz didn't see a cop so she took a U-turn and lights were lit up immediately. She told me to act like we were strangers. I don't know why. Aunt Taz is a little dramatic at times. LOL At any rate, the cop escorted us to the exit and saw my car and helped get me into my vehicle. When all was said and done, it was 11 pm. When I arrived home, Jay was just pulling into our driveway. LOL
Since that time, I have to have AT LEAST 1/4 of a tank of gas, extra keys, and now feel much safer with a cell phone.
As far as what I"m afraid of, clearly running out of gas, sticky frogs, lizards, well, just about any reptilian thing. I will FREAK OUT. I'm scared of roaches or their much bigger relative, the palmetto bug. I'm scared of the people that walk up and down our road. Our road leads to a park and Escambia Bay (which eventually feeds into Pensacola Bay and then the Gulf of Mexico). And sorry, but I can't call it the Gulf of America when I've known it as the Gulf of Mexico for my entire life. Anyway, these people live in areas that are currently undergoing change as the waterfront property is being developed for residents with a lot of money. So there are growing to be less and less walkers, but they are still there. They're either drunk or on drunks based on their behavior. We have a great police force active in our area, so that makes me feel better, but I am scared of people who are desperate and who will do risky things.
Wow. That was a lot. I think I need therapy. LOL
