Nettio's digi spring cleaning post got me thinking about this again. A while back there was another thread where folks were talking about cleaning off their hard drives and deleting digi supplies. Some people were deleting stuff off of their main hard drive, but still had backups of the kits, and others were getting rid of all the copies of something when they purged. So I got to wondering what "delete" really means to people.

I used to back everything up to DVD but when I have gone back to them exactly never since I did that.. I just said the hell with it and delete it completely. :)

I HAVE to have it backed up somewhere, in order for me to delete it off my computer. I just can't do it otherwise. I don't know why... :D

deleted off my hard drive but I have a back up.. I've actually gone back to old kits a few times, even after thinking I never would... so I just can't do that final delete off my EHD.. just in case! (I think I'm a border line hoarder!)

I'm a little paranoid about crashes, so I have 2 back ups. One is an up-to-date automatic online backup and the other is a much-less-up-to-date manually backed up EHD. When I delete, it goes from my HD and online backup. It's probably still on my EHD, but that's more because I don't bother cleaning that up than because I'm keeping it on purpose. I like to keep that one manually so that if I accidentally delete something from the HD and don't realize it for months, it will still be waiting for me on the EHD. Lots of things go onto my EHD, but very few ever come off.

For me (so far anyway), deleting something has meant getting rid of it completely. If I take the time to decide to purge something, I don't want to have to spend more time later looking at the backup copy of those supplies to decide (again) if I really want to delete it.

So far, I think I've only actually deleted one kit that I've purchased here, although I've gotten rid of just about everything from my pre-SSD days. There are kits that I'm not sure I'll use, and I know that there will usually be something new that comes along that I'll like and could use in place of something that I get rid of. If I didn't have to buy my supplies, it would be easier to delete things I'm not sure about. However, I will go back and use something that I bought ages ago and I'd rather do that than have to buy a replacement for it.

I've been decluttering my house and I really want to declutter my digi supplies, too. I'm having a hard time committing to actually getting rid of things. Maybe I'll make a "deleted" folder and move things there, then go back next time I purge and look at it. If my experience is anything like just about everyone else's, I'll end up truly deleting those supplies then. At least they'll be off of my working drive until then, though.

If I delete it, it is gone forever and I will never have to try and decide if maybe I really might want to keep it.

If I delete it, it's gone... my EHD is a true backup in that I keep everything on my hard drive and whatever is on my hard drive is on my EHD, but nothing else... I don't store anything extra on it...

I guess technically since I have backups of everything, I could get the files back if I wanted. But I never delete with that in mind - once it's gone, it's gone.

I voted I delete it from my working drive, but have a backup. But in all honestly it's not a long term back up....it's a DVD back up I do once a month of my new stuff in case the unthinkable happens and I have a computer failure!!!

I think in all the years I've been digi scrapping I've only used that back up once when I transferred computers and I had a few things that corrupted and I think once to go back and re download a kit that I had deleted!!!

When I delete it's because I don't like something anymore...and I don't see myself grow back in love with something!! :D :D

My EHD is my working drive, I try not to keep too much on my laptop (for fear it may explode or something!!), so my backups are to dvd. So if I delete something from my EHD, I could technically pull it from a dvd somewhere. When I delete from my EHD I don't go through all my dvds to find it and trash it, too much work for me! :D

I've only been doing this since last May and only shop from here, so I've yet to deleate anything but freebies I found while trying out digital scrapbooking. I'll revist this problem in a few years when my stuff seems outdated. lol.

When I delete (which is rarely) it's gone...I'm going to try to bring myself to delete this week but I get nervous...I mean I just may be looking for that kit from 2005...Not..Being that I'm a kit scrapper it should be easy for me to get rid of stuff that's really old especially if I haven't seen it in years...Ok I'm talking myself into deleting as I type :)

If I delete a thing it's gone...mostly. Like others I have a back up drive but when the end of the month rolls around & I reback up my HD, then whatever I deleted is truly gone.

I make backups to two EHDs--but I know myself well enough that if I don't come back to it in a year, it's very unlikely I ever will again, at least for kits. So delete for me is BANISHED into the depths of nothingness!

Now element packs of certain basics, those I tend to keep. I have some purchases of those from back in 2008!

To me, if it's backed up, it's simply moved, not deleted ... so I only count things I've deleted with no other copy, a true delete ... and I really never do that, lol.

Elizabeth is my hero....so now the only thing I backup is the stuff from my HD to my EHD once a month.....I do backup all of my photos on DVD every so often so that I have them in 3 places just in case {HD, EHD and DVD}....I figure if I don't like and am willing to delete it, than there is no need for me to back it up :)
