about having a guestbook at a retirement ceremony{they are both retiring from the Navy on the same day}? I ask this because the couple retiuring has over 50 years of service between the 2 of them and it is the 1st time all of their families has been together since they got married....

I thought maybe I could do somethign where people could leave a comment in the book, not neccessairly just sign their name...kwim...they are having a big catered reception after that as well....

they are great people, unfortuantely were never able to have kids, and I think it is something they will really cherish and appreciate ....

but wanted to get your thoughts :)
 
Personally, I think that's a really nice idea! :)

Something that my Mom did on a milestone birthday for my Grandma (75? maybe), she took her portable printer and took/printed pictures of each guest/couple and put them in an album. Now granted, there was maybe only 50-60ppl there, so maybe that would be too much?
 
I thought I could make a little standing note card that said " leave your words of wisdom for Bonnie & Pete" or something along that lines...
 
Wow! That is some accomplishment!!

AT a party, 4x6 cards(they were embellished with a strip of color) were set out for the guests to leave a note to the honoree. SO these cards- and I think they may have ahd a prompt on them and lines--were on a table next to the guest book with a box to return them and pens.

The 4x6's were then put into a slip in photo album as a keepsake at the end of the event.

I have also seen a variation of this where people received a 4x6 with their invitation with instructions and prompts and then people wrote on them before they got there. This one, I think was a baby shower where people gave their best advice and or best wishes to the new parents.
 
That is a wonderful idea!!! I totally second Robin's idea of sending the cards in the invites or somewhere away for a table where a person would feel on the spot... I know I would be hard pressed coming up with something on the spur of the moment and would probably saying "congratulations!"... and that's it... ;)
 
the only bad thing about trying to send them with the invites is it is an "official" militray retirement so the invites are all professional and such and I don't have any control over them. When invites like that go out to admirals and such it is kinda protocol and things have to be done a certain way. But I do like the idea of the cards with the lines and then put them in an album afterwards....th eonly plus side is, alot of people will be more relzxed at the reception and it be easier for them to write...this reception is gonn abe on the water and they rented a whole row of lakehouses for this party!
