i believe the 'and' is actually improper.. i looked it up a long time ago cause i was bored & wanted to write out the year on my layout.. but now i can't remember the reasoning

It's because saying 'and' in a number is supposed to indicate a decimal place. Saying two thousand and ten turns the number from 2010 to 2000.10. I'm guessing from the responses here though that this isn't the issue in England/Ireland/Australia.

20-10 because the Winter Olympics are being held in the province I live in, and we've been hearing 2010 for a long time around here, gearing up for them.

20-10. i don't really get the "two thousand ten" crowd...how would you all say 1910?? apparently i'm saying that one wrong too. :p

Yep, 20-10 here. But in my job, we've been talking about 20-11 and 20-16 for years, so it doesn't seem strange. I'm just waiting for some geek to start saying it like 2 zip 1 zip just to be weird.

I'm pretty lazy so it will be 20-10 for me, that word thousand is just too long!!! and it just rolls right off the tongue!!
