Some of you might remember THIS THREAD when I posted about finding my sisters and that it had been 20 years since I'd last seen them. And that I stumbled upon my father's obituary online? Remember how I mentioned that the only real contact I'd had with my Grandfather was a Christmas card each year? I hadn't seen him in 25 years!! I spoke to him after I learned of my father's death because I wanted to know what happened. After we talked a while, he mentioned that he and his new wife (I say new but they've been married 13 years...my Grandmother passed 15 years ago) travel the country in their 5th wheel every summer and that they were going to be in my area in May and that he'd love to see us if we were willing. Of course I said yes but I was hesitant to believe it would really happen.
Well, he called Thursday and said they were here for a few days and wanted to get together. HOLY COW, I was so nervous!! I was hoping it would go well and that unpleasant topics (mentioned in the other thread) wouldn't be brought up. We met them last night at the RV park and spent over an hour in the 5th wheel talking, then went to dinner, then spent another couple hours in the 5th wheel. He kept saying how happy he was that we were there and he'd get choked up every time he mentioned it. The night went WAY better than I anticipated...he and Jaime got along really well and his wife is SO sweet. We're going to dinner again tonight and he really wants us to plan a trip to their home in NV.
I didn't realize how much he was a part of my childhood and how many wonderful memories I had with him and my grandma...and how much I missed him. I guess I put all those feelings away when things with my father went bad and lost track of everyone. I'm so happy we're back in touch and that things went really well.
Anyway, thanks so much for making it this far in my novel...just had to share.
