We're bailing out AIG AGAIN?? SERIOUSLY??

I have not read the replies yet but I wanted to state my opinion real quick unbiased.

The devestation that would occur if AIG was not bailed out is more than the price of the bailout..when they back our banks and OUR money it would lead to a catastrophe.

I'm sure I'm kinda alone in my opinion but some of the downfall of these businesses failing and the problems of the economy have to be blamed on the people too. Too many people live way beyond their means and now when WE can't pay our mortgage, car loans, etc it in turn hurts the banks..etc I know when I first bought a home, I was approved for a loan for WAY more than I KNEW I could AFFORD. Luckily, I'm sane and knew that, but sometimes people see that big # and know they would give anything to live in something so luxurious, instead of living in reality and in the long run they are strapped and something has to give. It's stuff like that, that hurts these banks and businesses. Now we're hoarding our $$$ and not spending, so that is spiraling into the economy.

Totally not alone Meg, I agree completely!

I totally get that.. I don't want to make it seem like I don't.. I think it's asinine that the execs at AIG couldn't make the first 3 bailouts work. They've gotten 4 separate influxes of money from the government, and I think that's crazy.

Yea but the economy has still gotten worse since the previous bailouts. AIG is still losing money. And the more money they lose, the worse things get for the entire world economy.

I agree Meg.

I think a lot of it boils down to greedy people too.

(and I didn't think this thread was all that anti-obama at all...)

i'm never one to get involved in these threads but i totally agree with you...

If 30billion makes you sick, look at this:

Mark Williams, professor of finance and economics at Boston University and a former Federal Reserve bank examiner, said he thinks at least $200 billion more will have to be extended to AIG.

seriously?!?! and no one ever bashed another president in history...

Yes seriously, in general. I wasn't referring specifically to this thread. I was agreeing with Traci's comment that not everything has to boil down to a war for or against Obama, that's all.

Just a few of the ways this thread has turned anti Obama:

When did America become a socialist nation?

January 20, 2009

i'm sleeping until spring 2013. that or moving to outer friggin space.

"change is coming" my ass! That's all I say about that....

Now I'm not saying this to prove the point that Obama haters are mean and wah wah wah..my whole original point was that it wasn't necessary to take the thread and start spewing venom..about anyone..

If you want to spew venom then do it to the greedy corporate execs and the people who took the shady loans and caused the collapse...spew venom where it deserves and don't take every opportunity to turn a thread about the economy, country, world into a campaign against Obama, which has been happening over, and over, and over again in any thread even remotely like it.

We get it. You don't like him. You think he's a liar. You think he's a socialist. You think he's an illegal alien. You think he's the Antichrist.

You are entitled to your opinion, but don't take every unrelated opportunity to come out with guns blazing! LOL I respect everyone's opinions, completely. We're all one big happy family here made up of individuals with our own lives, personalities, religions and political opinions, if we're all respectful and stop trying to shove our ideals down the other sides's throats (on both sides) then people won't be afraid to open ANY threads here.

/endrant

I'm wondering why an opinion that disagrees with Obama's policies is considered spewing venom? I don't think that every political thread here turns into "anti-Obama" because naturally some of his supporters are quick to come in and say "why is everything anti-obama"....I didn't think this was even a discussion about him. Which is what a lot of these topics are, stuff that doesn't focus solely on him or his administration, but then people come in and start saying "why does everything turn anti-obama".......and that is when I usually see it start to decline or the people (like myself) with dissenting view points hush up really fast. Because if they don't, then someone will say that they are spewing venom, think he is the anti-christ, yada yada. See what I'm saying? I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying what I see. It's perfectly fine to come out and say something against conservatives and I don't see us claiming that a person is spewing venom. But if you say something against Obama, you're going to be reprimanded by it. That is how I see it whether you agree or not. Now call me whatever you like, I can take it and I don't need to cry anti-conservative or whatever because I am sure in my beliefs and fully respect the rights of others to post theirs without getting a little nudge over it. What I don't like is how if somebody dares make a comment about Obama most times they're going to get called out on it, but I don't see the "other side", for lack of better terms, doing that. Perhaps I am blind.

BTW, I don't think this is Obama's fault. TARP was started by Bush and the democrat controlled congress and it has spiraled from there. The blaim lies on many levels. The hope is that we get out of it without making it a bigger mess.

Yes, thank you Annie. I agree. I don't like seeing that when it comes from a liberal, a conservative, or anywhere in between. We should all try to be fair. Either you can say what you believe or you can't. Either you can speak against Bush and Obama conservatives and democrats or you can't. Which one will it be.

My point was, this was a non-political thread that immediately became political and in an anti-Obama way. My post was to say to everyone on both sides to knock it off. I'm for him, you're against him. We get it. You get it. I get it. We all get it. I'm tired of all the politicality (haha not a word, but I like it!) on both sides.

Annie, I haven't seen an anti Bush thread in a long time, please point me in that direction and I'll post there too :)

And BTW the antichrist comment is legit, I know whackadoos on both sides who think he's the antichrist! LOL

right and did everyone rememeber that with the bush administration cause it seems like a lot of finger pointing at one person during that time. that was my point. we can all vent at whomever we choose and depending on the side your on, your not going to like it but don't act like it's just directed at one side and at one person cause it's not.

The bottom line is government is corrupt/big industries are corrupt. Everything boils down to greed and how much money can be made at whatever cost necasary. Giving money away to a company like this does not make sense to me. I understand that we dont we will have serious repercussions but it just doesnt make sense to me. Its like if you have a car that is worth 1000 dollars and you get a bill to repair it for 5000 are you still going to repair it or would you take the 5000 to buy something new/newer? To me we are throwing these billions of dollars away on something that has long been broken and we are doing nothing to fix it just patch it temporarily and prolonging the ineveitable complete and total breakdown. So when it does finally breakdown we will have the devastation that was predicted along with billions upon billions of dollars given to this company gone

I think you are a wonderful, talented, beautiful, and super sweet lady Traci. But that is really unnecessary as it wasn't stated or even implied here and I doubt anyone would dare do so for fear of what may be said to them if they did.

that's refreshing. :D:D:D

p.s. i will not like obama as often as i feel necessary when ever i feel necessary. whether it relates or not. we may be talking about what our fave soup is and i may have a moment. it's how i keep from internal combustion. there's no need to reprimand me at every bend.

I wasn't speaking to "you" Amy or anyone else in this thread. I was speaking about what I've heard as a whole from everyone who hates him, democrat, republican, liberal, conservative, green. I've heard it all, from everyone. LOL

I apologize if that was offensive, but I was speaking to the "general you"

Seriously Traci, I'm not going to go searching around, we know they've been here. The point isn't "Oh well you (General "You") did so we can" because, frankly, I'm a Libertarian so I think yer ALL nuts, but there's a double standard being placed, plain and simply. Everything can be skewed into a political debate or conversation and I just think that it's wrong to have sat there (again, this isn't YOU personally... just folks in general, kwim?) for years and years saying "This is all Bush's fault", "Bush is a moron", "Bush has big ears", "Bush mispronounced a word", etc etc... and then turn around and cluck your tongue at the other side for doing the same thing. I much prefer to be an equal-opportunity offender :D

c'est la vie, c'est la guerre

Oh and BTW... I thought Bob Barr, Ron Paul and all those folks were morons too... so yeah... EOO.

Yes, this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. I'm tired of the snide comments. I'm tired of the anti-christ/Hitler comments. We get that you didn't vote for him but a good majority of the population did. I just think it's time to let go of the "I don't like him" attitude and accept that he's who's in charge. There are so many bigger issues that need dealing with and the negativity is getting in the way. (And for the record, I'm not talking about here, I'm talking about the population in general - there's a lot of this attitude going around right now and I think some of our congress members are the worst offenders :D.)

There was a rather funny interview with someone talking about Obama as the anti-christ on The Daily Show last week. I just couldn't believe someone would actually say what this guy was saying and believe it. :D

this is insanity. w:blink:w.

While I was reading about everyone spewing venom, my baby just spewed her breakfast all over my leg....

That's all.

I guess the difference to me is that a lot of this was based on things Bush actually did rather than misinformation spewed by the Republican party during the campaign. There's a big difference in spreading fear of socialism vs making fun of Bush-isms. At least give the guy more than a month before assuming we're all doomed. :D

Hey, Miss Traci, I've shown excellent restraint and not commented about anything. Her spewing was totally uncalled for! :p

LMAO I've done that the last few months but today I guess I'm just in too bad of a mood. My apologies to all, I will now retreat into illustrator.

*snort*

Haven't read through this thread b/c the past few months I've preferred to live with my head in the sand. I don't watch the news except for our local stations...I got to a point where I was losing sleep stressing over all this stuff and I have to say, since I shut off the news and made my world a little smaller I've been much happier and way less stressed lol.

The answer is prayer folks...all we can do is pray.

LOL I've never seen a thread change topics so many times! Not this week for your beloved..maybe next :) If you're good...
