Well Regarded Camera Brands?

Apparently I'm hard on digital cameras, and another one bit the dust on me yesterday. This one was a Canon (Powershot A720IS) that I was generally happy with, and before it I had a couple of Olympuses that I wasn't that happy with. I'm going to buy a new point and shoot in the next few days. I may get another Canon, but I'd like to look at a few other brands, too. I need a starting point--what brands are generally well regarded? Thanks!

defenitely most happy with Canon. I had two Kodaks and a Samsung I think. It was ok and so were the Kodaks but not great. My Canon though I love. When I get an SLR I will be buying another Canon.

In point & shoots, I would say the Canon PowerShot and the Panasonic Lumix lines are the most well regarded. My last p&s was a Fuji though and it served me well. I now have a Canon DSLR that I love - I chose Canon over Nikon due to the lens selections in the low-mid range.

I have a Canon power shot and the Canon DSLR (an oldie, the EOS from 6 yrs ago!)...and LOVE them both.

I've had several Canons and liked them just fine, now I have a Nikon SLR and a Nikon P&S, love them both :)

I too am a Nikon girl!
But, that being said, all we ever had before that was Kodaks & I will never waste my money on them again. We went through a couple in the first year of our marriage. My Mom has had nothing but trouble w/them, and the same for my best friend. I know they're cheaper, but you'll have to buy a new one sooner!

Thanks everyone! I'll look at a few Nikons and maybe some of these other brands, but it looks like there's a good chance I'll be getting another Canon.

I've had my newest Kodak for 3 1/2 years and it's still working great! The batteries (2 rechargeable AA's) aren't though, which sucks.

If you have the chance to get a point 'n shoot that uses a lithium ion battery get that! They last longer and keep a charge longer too!

I'm a Canon girl, I've had a Powershot S2IS and now my XTi and love them both. I loaned the S2IS to my Mom when I got the XTi and ended up buying a little Kodak P&S (M863 I think) to keep in my purse cause I wanted something small & inexpensive and most of the time it takes suckish photos! Outdoors and in good light it's fine but in less than perfect conditions it's hard to get a good photo no matter what setting I put it on. So in a few months I'll probably give it to my girls to use and get another smaller Powershot!!
