Weird medical question

I've not been feeling so hot, the basic cold and upper respiratory infection, but I also have something a little odd going on that is really painful. My nose hurts like a dickens and there is a hard lump inside my right nostril. The outside is tender to the touch and very red, but no lump out there. Any ideas on what it could be and what I can use to get rid of it? Blowing it is agony with that lump there.

Lorie - sounds like some type of little abscess/infection. You could try using a saline nasal spray to flush it out or put some peroxide on a Q-Tip and dab it on the sore area to help clear up the infection. (I'm not a doctor in real life, I just work for lots of them ) LOL You can try putting ice on the outside to help the pain and swelling that's inside. If it doesn't go away in a few more days or gets worse you might want to get it checked in case you need a course of antibiotics.

I'm not a doctor either (just worked in the medical field the last 22 years ) but it certainly sounds like an something may be infected....I agree with Marie that if it doesn't get better, defeinetly get it checked out because already being sick probably isn't helping your immune system kick whatever sickies is in your nose

I am prone to infections, so you both are probably right. Worst one ever was a soft tissue infection in my skull last year. It started behind my ear and with in 24 hours my entire head hurt, even my hair hurt to touch. The doctor was kinda amazed because I didn't have any wounds, just the infection. I get things like that. It is so weird. That's me though, the medical oddity.

That's how my nose feels when I get one of those really angry pimples that never really comes to the surgace. Just a bump and SOOOO painful...can't even touch my nose. It does go away within a day or two, so hopefully that's all it is for you.

I get that too, Laura. I don't get much acne on my face, just in my nose. It's so painful that just touching my nose brings tears to my eyes. Once it pops the pain is mostly gone, but it usually takes a couple days.

Here's another crazy weird thing that can happen cuz it happens to my husband about once a year. He gets an in grown nose hair! One year it pushed it out through the outside of his nose and the whole one side of his nostril was swollen inside and out weirdest thing EVER!

I get those sometimes..kind of like a giant pimple but on the inside or your nose..they hurt a lot but usually go away in a couple of days.
