Ways to make your luggage DIFFERENT

My sister just got back from Las Vegas and told me about all these problems with cancelled flights, changing airlines, etc.

Well she told me that they found another flight to take that was leaving in 10 minutes and the lady asked for a description of her luggage...when sis said it was (I think) "green with red flowers"...the lady smiled and said "you can come to my line anytime!...just don't tell me it's black, rectangular, and has a handle and wheels!"

...it got me thinking on that...mine is burgandy...it doesn't really stand out in a crowd of suitcases (granted it will have a bright yellow DISNEY tag on it for the resort we are staying at...but so will prob thousands of bags)...is there a way you can think of to change a canvas style bag to make it look different (without being hideous)??

Just tie a bunch of ribbons to the handle in bright colors.

DO NOT USE RED DUCT TAPE ON THE HANDLES!
(Yes, we learned this the hard way and my father may never live it down.)

Ribbons work well. We also bought some bright straps that wrap all the way around some of our bigger bags -- it helps hold them together and helps you ID them.

Because like a year or two or three or whatever down the line, the duct tape will start to come off, but it leaves the stickiness behind, and you and up with glue crap all over your hands. He had to buy packing tape and wrap the duct tape in it. Which I'm sure, will result in the same problem the next time they fly!

We got some luggage tags that were brightly colored...and my MIL got us some other smaller ones that were shaped like little men but they were like BRIGHT yellow, lol. My mom always ties a piece of yarn on hers...

when I traveled with large groups in High School and College we were all given strips of a streching plastic neon - it was about 12-18 inches. Everyone had the same color, each trip was always a new color and they could easily be removed at the end of the trip.

We have something like this on each of our bags. I use that color, DH has bright blue, Devin has orange, and JP has yellow. It just goes on the handle of the suitcase and it makes it so easy to pick our luggage out from the crowd. Love them! (It also helps that my suitcase is purple!)

You buy bright orange luggage! LOL Just kidding!

Our's is navy blue and honestly, we never had a single problem in Vegas.

I'd tie bright ribbons on to the handle.

Ugh, I thought my red luggage would really stand out when we went to Vegas last year. Turns out that everyone under the sun has red luggage these days. :p I bought dh some purple luggage tags with our alma mater on them and they really stand out even though his luggage is black. :)

This was recommended to me by a travel agent. You know those brightly coloured reflective strips you can get to wrap around your ankles while biking? ... get ones with good 'n' grippy velcro and wrap 'em tight around your handles. We've flown a lot of times with these and they work great!

Wow thanks for the great ideas! I knew you all would be able to help me! I'll drive out to Target this afternoon and see what they have in stock! I had been thinking of the bag itself...but maybe between the bright yellow tags for DISNEY and maybe lime green handles (or PINK?) then it will really stand out.

You could always embroider a bunch of stuff on them! However, that would take a long time and be tedious.

I would just tie some colored fabric/plastic strips to it... LOL!!!

If you're using the bright yellow tags, that means you're using Magical Express right? So it won't matter if you can spot your luggage or not. It will get taken off the luggage belt before you ever get on the bus. You just go check in for the ME bus, and it will be delivered to your room. Now you might have some trouble spotting it on the way home, but you won't be in a hurry then. :)

Yes we are using the Magical Express...just thought if there was any interruption in our flight plans coming or going we might need it easily identifiable.

When my family went to Russia, we bought some of those neon (I mean NEON!) circlular tags to hang off our bags... unfortunately many people thought they'd be a great idea to ID their luggage!!!! lol! I wouldn't buy anything meant for ID'ing your luggage because so many do! I'd go get some of those curly ribbons meant for gift wrap in bright yellow or bright orange & tie the off your bags if I were you. (They have some at wally-world for only a buck!)

Mine is purple so it stands out well. lol My mom has one of the those bright colored handle covers and she ties yarn onto the handles. It really helps.

My Dad got some neon colored masking tape and put a strip of it all the way around his suitcase the long way :) lol It def stands out now.

I had another thought.... take a picture of each piece of luggage and print them off on a letter sized sheet. Have it with your ticket/plane/travel info just in case.

I could make a little brag book to carry with me...pics of my kids in case we get separated, my tickets, our magic express pass, and my luggage. giggle ...actually it really is a good idea...then they would know exactly what it looked like! Thx

I noticed your siggy...bet you are getting excited! Everything all planned and ironed out? I can't believe that it has been 25 years since I got married!
