Waahhhhh - ACDSee or PSE causing computer issues!!

Everytime I get in the mood to scrap and I get going on something, my computer shuts down!! So frustrating!! It's either ACDSee or PSE 7 causing the problem. I'm thinking it might be ACDSee - I was just going through some papers and I could tell everything was about to shut down. Tried to save the page I was working on but it was too late! No wonder why I haven't scrapped in ages!!!

Any ideas? I'm wondering if running ACDSee on my laptop is overheating the laptop itself?

Ok, this is getting ridiculous!! The computer has shut down on me 5-6 times as I'm trying to scrap. I even shut down the internet and only had PSE and ACDSee running. I can't figure out which one is causing the problem but I'm so sick of this!!

Does anyone have any suggestions at all?? I'm running PSE 7 and ACDSee 10. I'm on a laptop (don't have a desktop anymore).

Uninstall and reinstall? Upgrade? Throw it all out the window??

I had so many problems with ACDSee when I was using Vista that I just had to uninstall and stop using it. The Windows Explorer file manager thing and Adobe Bridge do my "looking" for me now and I'm now using Windows 7 too, which has helped the speed on my lappy quite a bit.

I had problems running ACDSee 2009 on Win 7... and after doing some research found that was because they are incompatible... may there is something between 10 and Vista? Vista has been know for being divaish... ;)

Hmmm...so then upgrading ACDSee isn't going to help me is it? I don't know how to use explorer - well, I do, but what about all the tags I've done on ACDSee? All that work, all that time! I don't have Adobe bridge. Ugh!

I did run PSE by itself and it seemed ok. I also have had ACDSee by itself as I tag things and it has crashed so that must be the issue. I did a little scrapping today and would use acdsee just to open and drag over elements and then close it down so I could work. Eventually, everything did shut down but at that moment I had both programs open.

Hmm...not sure but I run PSE6 and ACDSee 10 on my Toshiba laptop all the time and I've only ever had a "crash" once or twice. And it's not a "high end" laptop either...it's bare bones. I'm running it right now on Vista but I use to run it on my desktop with Windows 98.

If it has been happening ever since you started working with both problems on your computer then you might have a "bum" ACDSee or PSE7. If you use to be able to run them both and it's just a "newer" problem then I'd say something has gotten messed up somewhere.

Do you "maintain" and optimize your ACDSee often? Do you run a "cleaner" on your laptop (like CCleaner). Do you shut down often so your RAM can "rebuild" (it gets really bogged down if you don't reboot sometimes to "restart it").

I do know that many have problems with ACDSee, fortunatly I never have so I am often at a loss when people ask for advice. I do remember reading somewhere that when ever ACDSee crashes it creates a file and you need to delete that file...let me google!!

Try reading this info!!!

Thanks Elizabeth - I deleted my CDX files so we'll see if that helps at all. I talked to a computer guy and he thinks that running both programs is using up most/all of my memory and therefore is causing the laptop to overheat and shut down. I'm going to take it in to him if this CDX removal doesn't help matters. Onward!!

how much RAM do you have? if you computer was bought when they were shipping with Vista it most likely would have enough RAM to run both programs. And honestly, I don't think memory consumption has anything to do with the heating/cooling of the laptop. Do you hear the fan run? Is your fan (which is supposed to cool the system) still working?

If it's your computer powering itself down, you shoudl be prepared for it to be hardware related (like the fan). It could also be a motherboard - which would be a massive problem.

BACK EVERYTHING UP!! ASAP, just in case.

Oh I want to second Beckie...BACK UP!!!! :D :D

Have you tried it since deleteing the CDX file? I have to agree with Beckie that I don't think it's using too much memory...unless your computer is packed to the gills it should be fine...now if it was packed then it might run slow as molassas or freeze up on you but I don't think it would overheat the laptop, causeing it to shut down.

Like I said...mine is bare bones (hd is only 140GB and it's only 2GB of RAM...which really my laptop can only use about 1.7 of those since I only have a 32 bit operating system) and I can run both programs without any problems.

Good luck Kelli!!! Keep us posted!!!!

Ok, I have 3GB RAM/32 bit operating system and it looks like I have only 11GB of space left on my HD (YIKES).

I have Backblaze for backup and I just backed up ACDSee on my external HD yesterday because I was afraid something awful was about to happen!

I have tried since deleting the CDX files. Last night, I was able to use PSE for quite a while by itself (I only opened acdsee to find some elements, drug them down to PSE, then closed it again). The computer did eventually shut down completely.

The fan works - but it seems to cycle off and on but I think that's normal.
