vista help?

somehow my folder names have disappeared within my scrap folder. i have over 250 folders (mostly organized by designer, some by store), so it's taking me forever to find what i need. :blink: anyone know how i can get them back?

i'm using tile view right now and the names are there, but when i switch to large icons it looks like this.

none of my other folders seem to be affected, just the one huge folder that i use every freakin' day. :glare: on the bright side, i see another big purge coming on as i stumble across all the odd stuff i've never used (and never will)

Seriously though... it's basic... but did you try rebooting the computer?

the recovery step is to perform a disk scanning on drive that is affected by Check Disk. The ‘problem’ should be resolved and fixed after a system restart after system finished disk checking.

Try that Linz...hopefully it'll work!

Or maybe this...

Open the folder and Right click on the empty space and choose Customize This Folder on the customize tab select Pictures and Videos in the Use this folder type as a template:
(if not selected already ). Switch to the folder which is not displaying names press ALT and on the View menu unselect Hide File Names and you are done . The names will be displaying now.

If you just right click on the empty space between a couple folders, you can select View and uncheck "hide file names." So basically what Jennifer said, but a bit faster.

Here's another solution... paraphrased... if all else fails...

Open the troublesome folder... click through to any random folder within it... then hold down Shift and click the little "Back" arrow. You might have to do it more than once.

I've done that before but I don't remember how I fixed it. Was really really annoying though, so I know what you're going through.

k, so i've tried all the suggestions and this is the only one that worked. well, sort of.

Open the troublesome folder... click through to any random folder within it... then hold down Shift and click the little "Back" arrow. You might have to do it more than once.

only problem is it doesn't stay fixed. so, if i like open my super-hot angie kovacs folder and then go back to the main folder, i'm back to having no folder names.

my view menu doesn't have a 'hide file names' option. or maybe i'm looking at the wrong one?

maybe i'll just try to move everything to a new main folder and see if they're still nameless. hmm... i sooo need to stop messing with this and just get a LO done.

Alright so I kinda, sorta, purposely made it so my filenames disappeared too... I dunno, I have too much time on my hands and curiosity to boot. Anyways, yeah, I made it "stick" by doing the shift-back thing, then closing the explorer window. When I reopened it, everything seemed fine and hasn't done it since.

well, apparently windows hates me then. just rub it in.

i tried putting some of them in a different folder and that fixes it... just don't feel like moving all of them at the moment. must.scrap.now.

This same thing happened to me Linz and I searched online all day for help on correcting it but nothing worked. I wish I knew how to fix it cause it sure is annoying!
