Vacation Albums

What do you do with your vacation photos? Do you use one kit and scrap the whole thing that way? Do you scrap like normal? A simplified way? Do you have examples?

I have only done 2 vacation albums, in one I used one kit for the whole thing and in the other I did 2 page layouts for the whole time. This year we went on 2 vacations and I haven't scrapped a single picture from either. I can't decide what I want to do.

I just scrap them like regular pages, with whatever kit I think suits, then add it to my kids regular albums. It's part of their year, so I want to include it in their yearly albums.

I'm finishing up our Florida trip as we speak - it was an 8 day trip and I've used different kits through out, kits to go with the theme or activity we did... and it's turning into about 150 some pages. This is the first vacation album I've done to the end - well almost to the end, I'm currently on the page talking about our flight delay at the connecting airport home - but I see the end in sight!!! :thumbup:

The pages all have the same "design"... using Janet's 2 many photos and just the basic albums... some pages have been modified - combining photo spots to change a square into a rectangle or adding photos... also a quarter inch around the edges... journaling on velum, and a "date" banner that has the day and the general time of this particular event.

With the hundreds of photos I took and knowing it was going to take a lot of time to get done - I opted for focus on photos and minimal on elements.

Also - this going to be printed in a separate photobook - it was our first big trip as a family and J's first plane ride... for other smaller trips, I'm planning on just putting all those together in a photobook and be like, "trips of 2011"

I struggle with vacations, too. There are just too many activities and too many photos. I usually end up scrapping a few pages that get stored chronologically with my other layouts. I don't get everything scrapped, but I try to include a list of all our activities (or at least the vacation's highlights) on one of the pages. Because the photo sorting and editing are so time consuming for vacations, even a simple mini album takes me too long and I get bored, so this works better for me.

Our last big vacation/family reunion I scrapped as a Shutterfly book. I kept it pretty simple, used templates and a main kit throughout the whole thing. I was very happy with how it turned out.

I have not really used the same kit but do keep them separate from my regular pages by getting them printed as a photobook. I do like the way that the coordinated kits look though.

I will be scrapping our family disney vacation which was short but there's a LOT of pictures and I plan to use the same kits for that.

I also went to Puerto Rico for a week this past Spring and again, have a lot of pictures, so I will probably do all with a kit or two.

I'm really liking this simplified look with very little elements and big pictures you girls showed. Maybe I'll do something like that. We went to the Wisconsin Dells and to Duluth, MN and I took so many photos, its ridiculous. lol

It depends... for big vacations with lots of photos like Disneyworld, I make a separate book but I use whatever kits I feel like using. The one I've been working on sporadically is being done with one of Janet's album templates to keep things simpler.

For short vacations like our trip to Boston this summer, I just scrap them like normal and they go in the yearly book.

For our month-long cross-country trip this summer I'll make a separate book also

For vacations where I have a manageable number of pictures, I just scrap them like I would any other occasion. For bigger vacations, I include a few pages in my regular album, then make a separate album to have printed somewhere like shutterfly - I like to go with a smaller size, like 8x8 or 10x10.

For example, I went to Australia in 2011. If you look towards the bottom of this gallery page, you can see some of my layouts https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com/gallery/showgallery.php?ppuser=10384&cat=500&page=9 I picked a few Janet templates, tweaked them, and used those to keep somewhat of a uniform look. I was very happy with how it turned out!

We are going to Disney next week, and my plan is to scrap my favorites using cindy's templates (which is my usual style), then I bought one of Janet's mini-albums to use for the rest of my pics. I want the album to be something I can get done in a reasonable amount of time... if I scrapped everything in my usual style, it would take forever.

I LOVE making vacation albums... And I love flipping through my photo books when I'm done.

In March, we went on a cruise. It took my about four months to get the photo book finished, but I absolutely love how it turned out. I used Cindy's photo focus templates for most of the pages and flipped them horizontally to make a spread. For each spread, I used one kit, but I switched from activity to activity to keep me interested in the scrapping. I recommend doing that; otherwise, you might get really tired of it.

So Im just starting my album from our trip last month to London and Paris and I have a TON of pictures to scrap. I got Becky Higgins Project Life templates and then some 4x6 photo collage templates from Designs by Lili and putting together 2 pagers to handle the tons of pictures at specific places like HArry Potter studio tour, the Louvre, etc.

There are some things where I dont want tons of pics on the page so will scrap it like a regular page with just 1 or 2 pics on it and then do journaling. Here is what Ive done so far:

These are great ideas! I am one of those who is a TERRIBLE finisher. I have so many great intentions, but no follow through. For our recent trip to Africa, I am going to use Lynnette's Week in the Life templates, which are more photo and story focused, probably very little actual "scrapbook" materials. I have done some pages for our disney album, which are a mix and match to fit where we were, but again... I have not finished! Thanks for the great ideas and examples!

I once did a whole album using one kit. Although I loved the way it turned out because of the continuity of the pages, it was a BORING album to make! I haven't used the kit since because I'm sick and tired of looking at it.

Now, I try to keep it looking somewhat alike by mixing up a bunch of kits that are similar. It's not as boring to work with that way.

BUT... if it's a Disney trip album? Anything goes! Those are the ones that take years to scrap because I wait for the perfect kit or inspiration to do the pages.
