I'm a dork, and confused. There's a million filters and I just want one that will protect my lens. I usually use the 55-200mm......so I don't know what size to get. errrr...help?

Do you have the box for the lens? It'll say what size filter you need.
I don't have my camera here so I can't remember if the filter size is printed on the lens itself as well.

Well poot. I have no idea where it is. Time to raid the junk closet
aha.....read directions and keep manuals and box, that could actually help huh. LOL

The filter (and hood size) is on the lens. If you look on your lens there will be a bunch of gibberish. Your filter size will have a little circle symbol with a vertical slash on it. On my Tamron it is right after the lens size and on my Canon zoom lens it is all by its lonesome on the outer rim.

Amy it should say right on your lens, right on the front of it....it will have a small circle with a line right through the middle and then it will have a number with mm after it!!! Like the kit lens for Canons are 58mm. HTH!!!

Thanks girls! I'm checking the papers that came with it.....not sure where that box is. I'll check the lens too Amanda.
I just love it here. You girls at SSD are always so sweet and helpful :)

I figure that only $7 bucks, Tiffen is worth a try. Picked that up and a wireless remote. If I don't like it then I'll go back and cough up the 30 something. I am a bit OCD over my camera- this is the first non-Nikon thingy I've bought for her. I hope she won't be mad at me LOL

One of my UV filters I got from B&H for $12, but the other I was able to get "used" from B&H for $5! I figured it was worth a shot. It came in perfect condition, though separate from the rest of my order. It protects my lens either way :)

Just a word of warning...if you are going to get a good lens, don't buy a dirt cheap filter. The pictures are going to go through it too, and often you get what you pay for. Yes we don't want to spend extra money, but what's the point of getting this great new camera and lens and then putting a POS filter on it. Ok I only say this because that is what I did, sigh...live and learn!
