US - Tax Day

Has everyone finished? I work for a mid-sized CPA firm, and its amazing the stress of this one day can throw on all of us! I'm so sick of all the OT (although the money has sure been nice for extra scrapping goodie)
Our office goes crazy bringing in all kinds of food to keep the troops happy - which has been heck on my diet - that I keep re-starting every day! :cursing:

Anyone else looking forward to the halabaloo being over?

It's already over for me...well, except I'm waiting for my check from the US :) Last year our accountant didn't get our return back to us until a couple of days right before the 15th!!! Luckily, this year they had ours done at the end of March - woohoo!

I got my refund check weeks ago actually.

I can't imagine what it's like being in that kind of office though! Good thing you get paid for OT! And that they bring in food and stuff. Tired, hungry employees makes for no fun!!

Finished mine in February and already got my return, now waiting for that rebate that I saw today should be in my bank account on the 2nd of May, WOO HOO!!!!

Because of the floods, if you work in, live in, or use an accountant in a number of MO counties (including St. Louis) the tax filing deadline was extended to May 19th!! We are totally taking advantage of that! I am hoping we don't owe much this year, but being self employed and owning 2+ business, our taxes are a nightmare. We even have to redo last years taxes because our (former:) ) accountant didn't do them right. Ohh, I miss back when I could do my own taxes, and file using the 1040EZ!

I did my taxes last night, and this is the first year I've owed. Sigh. Not that it was a big whoppin' deal. $14 all told, but still. Annoying.

Especially since I owe the U.S. gov't 1 stinkin' dollar. ONE. They couldn't just let that go?! *lol* I make no money... not married... no kids... don't own anything... can't they give a gurl a break?!

Of course, they've already debited that dollar out of my bank account this morning! *lol*

LOL LeeAndra.. they should waive it.. especially since if your refund is less than $5, they won't send it to you..... they'll just credit it to next years taxes.....

Mine have been done for a few weeks, and I got my money deposited into my account within 10 days (state AND federal!!!). I should get that $600 on may 2nd or 9th too!

Direct deposit rocks my socks :)

:cursing: :cursing:

We sent off a big fat check to Uncle Sam this morning, for the first time EVER! We had our return done weeks ago, but we kept the owed money in our accounts until the very last minute so the government wouldn't earn interest on it.

I'm blaming George Bush. Just because I can and it makes me feel good.

We did ours in Feb. Two days after the federal refund hit the bank account the well pump died. :( The day before the state funds arrived DH needed a root canal. :(

Apparently the universe doesn't like us having extra money. I'm scared to death of what will happen when the rebate arrives - transmission repair on my car? washer & dryer stop working? the electric bill from hell?

I did mine a while ago... I usually drag it out as long as possible (because I have to pay in lol) but I just shot it right off for some reason this year :D :D

We finished ours in early February and got our money back less than two weeks later. It's been gone since then too.

that bites! My car broken down at refund time 2 years in a row! :cursing:

sweet mother of pearl. i did mine a week or so ago and I GET MONEY BACK! you have no idea how much that means to me. we have had to pay for the last 7 years of our 10 year marriage! thank you house deduction, thank you taxable contributions, thank you george w., thank you.

HOLLER!!!! "that rebate" saved my life...again a huge thank you (shout out) to my man george w.

We did ours in early February and already spent our entire refund! Now I'm counting the days til May 9th when we get our nice fat stimulus rebate direct deposit! Of course that will be spent as soon as we get it! It's been burning a hole in our pockets since we found out we were getting it lol!

I already got our refund and prompty went over to the orthodontist and paid off my 16 year old's braces. So I keep demanding that he smile at me. :D LOL $6000 for braces... I swear one of my kids will be an orthodonist.

We filed ours yesterday -- we pay quarterly taxes in advance, so we always have a big payment due for next year's taxes! Ouch!

Got 'em done yesterday and mailed off. And yes, we do get a little refund but will go to pay off a bill. This is the latest we've ever filed! Last year we had to pay out the 'bazooka' so we were a bit hesitant this year.

I hear you about the quarterly taxes! To have the 1st quarter due at the SAME TIME as your tax return. Oh boy...we were hit HARD last April! Ouch! It still hurts to think about it. And then the 2nd payment due in June *sigh*

At least we're in the opposite position this year. Well, bad that that means DH earned less lol, but at least we're not owing HUGE come April.

i just mailed off my dad's taxes for him today after he prepared them, and he had to write a check to the u.s. treasury in the amount of $55,000! that should make most of us feel better! who knows what he had to pay the state.

HOLY mackeralfish! I'd cry.

mine aren't done. lol. my dad does all the taxes. i think he's got his and mom's done. but not mine.
i never really make enough money to even worry about (the joys of working only part time, and working for commission). i do, however, get LOTS of money back.

and i don't get that extra $600 from the government. my parents still claim me on their taxes as a dependent. -eyeroll-
