Updating catalog from LR3 to LR4 - any tips?

I started using LR4 when I got my new Mac a couple of months ago. I imported my LR3 catalog and started using it, but didn't update the catalog to LR4. I want to start using a plug-in which requires the catalog to be updated. I've heard some bad things about upgrading LR catalogs to LR4, so I'm a bit scared to do it. Has anyone here done it and how did it turn out? Do you have any tips?

When I got my MBP a friend of mine had installed CS5 and LR4 for me and I was leery as well, but so far I haven't had any hiccups when I converted my catalog My biggest worry was linking the catalog in my new lappie to my EHD where all my supplies were, but I just followed a simple tut, linked the proper parent folders together, and poof! All my tags and metadata, etc came out
