Update on me and baby Timothy

I've been wanting to let you guys know how we're doing, but the stupid hospital Internet filter was blocking SSD (over iNSD, of all times!) and I just got home.

I was induced on Friday with baby Timothy. We knew ahead of time that he would have Down syndrome and there were some other medical reasons why they wanted to induce me at 37 weeks rather than waiting for me to go into labor naturally. Labor went very well thanks to a wonderful support team and an epidural, and he was born Friday afternoon, 7 lbs., 2 oz. and 19 inches long. He has dark eyes, brown hair with a few reddish highlights and also inherited his Daddy's long eyelashes (all of our boys did, but not our daughter -- poor girl!)

On both Friday and Saturday, he was very sleepy, unusually congested and not at all interested in nursing. They took him for a routine echocardiogram (we were previously aware of a small hole in his heart) and while they monitored him, they were concerned enough about his congestion and lack of eating that they admitted him to the NICU and started a feeding tube.

The congestion has not gotten better and even the tube feeds put him into distress (lower heart rate and lower oxygen levels) so today, the neonatologist decided to transfer him to the NICU at a nearby Children's Hospital where they have better resources to assess what's going on. He was transferred late this morning, I was discharged, we brought the older kids home for naps and DH and I will head over to the Children's Hospital once everyone's awake and we can drop them off at Grandma's.

We're very grateful for all of the prayers and words of concern and encouragement. We hope that he won't have to stay in the NICU very long, and that we'll have him home with us soon!

And yes, I'd love a NICU/preemie kit. :)

Glad to hear you are doing well, and my prayers remain with you guys. I hope he's just a slow starter and you have him home soon.

congratulations kara. i hope they figure out what is going on quickly and that he improves so you can take him home.

Congratulations Kara. I saw the pics on FB, and he is adorable! I'll be thinking of you and praying that you'll be able to bring your sweet boy home soon.

Welcome, Baby Timothy!! And congrats, Kara!! I sure hope and pray that little Timothy is back home very soon!

Oh Kara...you are a super strong woman! How are you doing through all of this?
Still lots of thoughts & prayers for you my dear!!

Hi Kara, so glad to hear you are up and about and that little Timothy arrived without too much trouble :) I'll be thinking of him and you and hoping he picks up a bit at the new hospital. I teach children with DS and know from talking to their mommies that life was a struggle at first - for them as well as their mommies and daddies so I'll be keeping you all in my heart xx

Congratulations Kara! It sounds like he is in the right place! Lots of prayers for you! Don't forget to take care of you! And journal everything from these early days in the NICU because you will forget everything!

Congratulations! Little Timothy sounds just gorgeous. Hope your stay in NICU is a short one!

Congrats, Kara! I'm glad that he arrived into the world safely, and I'm sending lots of positive thoughts that they can get him over this and home with you soon. In everything you're doing for your family and Timothy, try to find some time to take care of yourself, too.

Oh Kara, I'm glad delivery went well--I hope he doesn't have to stay in the nicu too long and that everything is okay!

You are all in my prayers. I hope his NICU stay is a short one!! I know how difficult it is to have to leave your baby at the hospital...two of mine were NICU babies!!

Sending many hugs and prayers to you Kara!!! I can't wait to see pictures on the new little one!!!

Kara sweetie, congrats and I will continue to pray, as well as, for a short stay in NICU.

xoxo
