Up to my eyeballs in organizing

After my Saturday shopping spree I decided that I absolutely had to get organized in ACDSee. I am so tired of having so much and not knowing it's there or not being able to find it.

So I started on Monday.... and man, I think I'm getting carpel tunnel from all the dragging and dropping.

I think I'm about 30% through though, so I feel really good about that.

And the added benefit is that I'm seeing each kit peice by peice. I've found all sorts of goodies I didn't even know I had!

I'm *trying* not to scrap until I'm done... we'll see how that goes! LOL

I know it's daunting -but you'll be so glad when you're finished!

I was making it a goal to get a folder done a day - but I'm good at a folder per week now (main folder - not just a kit). ;)

Good luck to you! I'm not scrapping tonight as well, just organizing. I'm taking baby steps and only doing my Embellishments folder at the moment. I have 90gig worth of digi stuff to tag so I have a looong way to go...

I said I wasn't going to buy ACDSee until I got my new computer at home....but I dunno. I might have to dive in earlier! LOL!

just curious on how you organize your stuff??? Right now I save it all into folders according to my purchase dates. . . .its not working so well! HELP!! Now I have the organizing bug. . . .but not yet! One more challenge to go!!!!

Yeah, I am dreading starting it. I was almost all done when I lost my hard drive and had to reinstall ACDsee. Nothing is tagged anymore so back to the drawing (or should I say dragging) board!

I break down by designer. But in ACDSee you are able to sort however you want... so I'm being meticulous about different kinds of embellishments, fastners, journaling items. I'm breaking the categories down very specific, because that's how I am, but that's the neat thing about ACDSee, you can set it up in anyway that works for you.

It is really daunting, but I think the rewards will be worth it. I can't wait to be able to search for something and have it just pop up instead of digging in and out of folders.

I am curious... what is abcsee?? I already forgot, is that what it is called?? lol. I too am always trying to figure out the best way to organize...

ACDSee. It's an organizational program. You tag everything in your stash with various categories (blue paper, green paper, designer name, staple, binder clip - whatever you want). So then if you're working on a lo and you want a red brad, you go to ACDSee, and look up ALL the red brads that you tagged and pick one. It lets you look at your WHOLE stash (by category) instead of having to search through kits to find that perfect red brad (or green paper, or swirly ribbon, etc etc).

Good luck with it!
I wish we could buy kits already tagged, but I'm not sure there's any way that would work in ACdsee

My goal is to get organized too...I started a little and I've actually found stuff I hadn't even unzipped...I'm so bad...I think I'm going to purchase ACDSee and get busy...

I've been working on mine too! I love being able to search a specific color or for all my frames, staples, flowers etc! It will be nice once i am all done!

I love ACDSee but I'm so bad about the actual tagging. I just tag little bits here and there. I think my attn span is SO short that it is hard for me to actually tag an entire kit at one time. Sad I know.

Pam, did you not back up your ACDSee database?

k, Col will not be scrapping for the next 4 days because she'll be tagging. LOL

I haaaaaaaaaaaate to tag. I love ACDSee but man do I hate to tag. LOL

OMG you're not even kidding Sara, lol. I've got about 80GB to tag! BAH! I'm going to try not to overwhelm myself and just do a few folders a night, lol.

Just purchased it and am downloading now. I also found this site, where you can download the settings and then edit them, so I think I'm gonna do that. I'd cry if I had to come up with a whole system by myself!

Download page for various styles of organizing

Col that's what I used too, but then I'm super anal and I added like 80 subcategories. LOL

Here's the best thing I've found. Let it catalog your folders.

Then, do a search. It's easier to tag that way. You'll miss some stuff because of file names, but it will catch a lot.

So let's say you want to tag all your buttons. type button in the file name search and it will pull up everything you have that has button in the file name. Then you can select everything and tag it as a button. Then search for something else. It does help. :)

I see what you're saying, good stuff. I'm gonna look up the famed "Gina Miller Organizational System", lol. I know she posted it at MSA recently.

I saw something about that a bit ago and totally forgot! Can you share the link if you find it?

Ok so I'm confused. When I started it, it asked me about cataloguing. So I pointed it to my photo folder, and my digiscrap folder. I quickly realized that would take about 15 years. So I stopped it.

So now do I just go through each folder, and tell it what I want to tag it? Can I tell it to catalogue all of my SSD stuff, and then I can tag it how I want?

Hmmm, organizing....what's that? LOL

I tried ACDSee, but it just made me feel guilty about buying new stuff. Who needs that?

LOL Kellie, I have ACDSee just so I can see what I have there, but it's not tagged. It is organized by designer. Obviously I am missing a lot of what I have, like Col I have 80 GB (more now...just hit TDC LOL) and it's overwhelming.

I think mine's been cataloging my SSD stuff (not count Traci or Julie cuz they have their own CT folders) for about an hour now, with no end in sight, lol. It's gonna take me days just to get everything in it, let alone start tagging.

you will get there! i finally got all my old stuff catalogued and now all I have to do is tag as i buy....it's such a relief!! My main words of wisdom would be to BACK UP YOUR DATABASE EVERY TIME YOU FINISH TAGGING A BUNCH..I can't count how many times I corrupted my DB
