Ugh. Who else can relate?

The rudeness is DRIVING ME CRAZY!! My dd got a new haircut a couple weeks ago and is SO delighted with it and while walking through the mall the day after one of the boys blurts out, "Your hair looked better before."

Oh man...I can relate!! I'm terrified!! Two girls, and my 12-year-old is on her way...I keep having to remind myself the mood swings and irrational behaviour is not her fault and isn't anything I didn't do when I was her age. YIKES!

Yes and no. I was very lucky with my first two in that there was drama but it was never horrible stuff like doing drugs or drinking. I defenitely had moments of exasperation though.

So much truth in that!! I wish I'd had more advice/support when my first was a teen. I was sure I was the only one going through those things and that it meant I was a bad parent or he was a horrid kid.

What I found easier with a toddler versus a teen is the freedom available to them once they become a teen. A toddler may have tantrums but there is nothing they can really DO...when they become a teenager though they can leave, they are exposed to so much you do not want them to be and have to make so many hard choices which you really do not have much influence on anymore. But with a toddler it is not like they can drive a car or if a kid they play with behaves badly well you just dont take them to play with them anymore. They dont have to make choices like reporting bullying or sticking up for themselves with bullies. So I have always said toddlers are so much easier then teens just for that simple reason that you as a parent have a lot more control over their environment and what they can do and what they are exposed to.

:) I loved reading this - made me smile at things I recognized in my own kids or some of their friends/parents. I have a 16 yr old and 11 yr old and have made it this far....but there is always something interesting going on in our lives. :)

Yeah, I've been scared of the teen years pretty much since my oldest was born. He'll be 9 in a few months.

Jake, my non-bio boy, has been through SO much already, that he seems to have a head-start on this stuff. It REALLY helps me to remember how emotional I was as a teen, and how miserable it was being moody. That was hard stuff!

It's so hard when they treat you like poop for hours for no apparent reason, then abruptly turn around and want to be sweet and silly.

My mom had 5 kids, 4 of whom were girls. How in the world did she do this?

I found with my daughter especially when she was moody it was usually for a reason. I would have to talk to her for awhile with her ignoring me before she would admit what was going on.

My son did this for about a year! Most of the time he didn't even know why he was so cranky, which just made him more so because he felt out of control.

I have a fifteen year old and can totally relate. He is high maintenance, overall a great kid with incredible potential, but, OMG, high maintenance!!
