ugh! mouse won't work!

Ugh! I am so ticked right now! I use this little tiny baby mouse with my laptop and it quit working. So I tried an old baby one just in case....no workie. So then I thought, "well crap, I am going to have to use a ginormous one I guess". So I grab it to try it.....but it's so freaking old it has the old kind of round adapter and won't even fit my lap top! I CAN NOT scrap with my fingers! I have to have my mouse! ARRRGGGGHHHH!

Well, it is now far worse than I thought....it is not my mouse that isn't working. My laptop is not even recognizing the USB ports. So, I can't even get anything off of my EHD which is where I keep everything!

I have tried everything that Microsoft suggests and rebooted many times. I think I am wearing this laptop out and can not even afford a new one. This is so upsetting......

It figures this would happen to me on the day I cleared my schedule to scrap! :thumbdown:

I had this same problem last year. Here are some suggestions from my husband, who fixed it for me back then. Have you checked your ports under your control panel (in the hardware section) to ensure they are enabled (rebooting doesn't help)? Or have you tried downloading the latest hardware drivers by going into the control panel, going to the hardware, then USB ports, then expand the selection with a left click. If you see an exclamation point, then it needs to be enabled or updated. You can find out the properties for the device by right clicking on the line with the exclamation point. A screen with tabs will pop and it should the manufacturer and a place to re-enable and another tab that has the ability to download updates.
I'm not sure if these are what you tried from Microsoft's suggestions, but here are a couple more possible actions. You can run Windows Update, and when you run the list look at ALL the available updates. Or (worst case) try a system restore to roll the computer and system settings back to a date before you had the problem.

Oh no...hopefully you can get it fixed soon...it sucks big time when computers suddenly decide to have hissy fits!
