ugghhh dont know how much longer I can deal

Down the road from us there is a teenage boy who as far as I can see never goes to school. He might be out of school already I dont know. What is bugging me so much is he plays the drums non-stop. We live on an acre of land and have three acres in between us and him I hear this all day and well into the night. It has to be the most annoying thing ever. My daughter knows him and has told him we hear it and it keeps us awake sometimes. His response to her is "So what, Im doing it in my yard and in my house. Deal with it!" I just do not know how much longer I can deal with it. I once called the police dept because he was doing it at like 1 o'clock in the morning and it is so quiet out here otherwise which only makes the beating that much more noticeable and they told me there is nothing they can do. If he is doing it in his house then he has every right to do it. I did not want to call but I was so tired and it is just thumping noise. It isnt like he is even playing a song. Just beating, beating, beating some random pattern switching it every thirty seconds or so.
 
omgosh i SO feel for you.. probably more than you would ever realize. I have an extreme sensitivity to noise/sound.. haven't met anyone who quite understands the extent..

Anyways this past summer some boys decided they wanted to try and start a band, a house over from me. They played in their wood shed. I'm not kidding when I say I almost lost it.. my mom even called my neighbour to come over to see if i was ok (was crying on the phone to my mom the first time it happened.. lol)

I had to tell them that I just couldn't handle it, that i have a health condition that makes it unbearable.. where I live the bylaw had them stop playing there because it was a disruption of peace.

I hope you can get something sorted out! If he wants to keep playing hopefully they force them to do some kind of soundproofing or something. Maybe do some research to see if there is a noise bylaw where you live? The police don't do anything for us here but bylaw does.. if we try hard enough. My husband helped soo much this summer by talking to the teenagers mom and getting her to understand. I'm still scared though that it might start up again :(

yes I am really sensitive to noise too. I can deal with some sounds when I am trying to sleep like a fan but otherwise I cant have any sort of noise.

I honestly do not think that the police wanted to take the complaint. We have to call the county police because there is no police for our town and well noise complaints I dont think really top their priorities.

oh boy, no noise ordinance where you live? That stinks, especially when neighbors forget how to be considerate for others!!
 
That is the most rediculous thing ever - that someone would be SO insensitive to those around them! And I think he must have the drums amped or something, because I live in a townhouse and the boy (in highschool, very good kid) plays his drums in his basement - and we can sometimes hear the beat faintly through the wall but they have asked us a hundred times if we can hear it and if it bothers us! I so appreciate being considered. And it doesn't bother us at all. We have a noise curfew in our city of 11:00, and anything you can hear outside someones house after that is an offence...
 
well after about two hours straight today he finally stopped. I talked to my daughter after school today and she said that he is not a really good person. He doesnt go to school, smokes marijauna and saying something about the noise would only make him play louder and longer.
 
we have no noise ordinances where we live either. The cops might turn up if you are having a drunken party with live band and shooting off fireworks. But only because of the fireworks and only if enough people call. Though if you drive around after 10pm with your windows rolled down and your radio blasting they will cite you for an ordinance violation. Sadly it only applies to cars.

Can you call his house & speak with his parents, assuming he lives with them? If not I'd just keep calling the cops. Eventually they might get sick of you calling every night and go say something to him.
 
I am wondering if you are unable to do anything on HIS end about getting him to stop or at least only during reasonable hours, can you do anything on your end? Maybe start using a white noise machine at night or something? At least letting you get a good night sleep. My moms runs a humidifier all day and it is a steady hum you don't notice until it is off. Maybe that could dull it a bit more still.

Really sorry you are going through this though, you shouldn't have to deal with a neighbors noise when you are in your own house. Hopefully his drum phase will be over soon.
 
That would be my worst nightmare! It doesn't sound like you live in a neighborhood so I'm assuming there is no HOA?
 
no no HOA we live in a somewhat rural area. It used to be alot more country but it still is considered rural and so people think they can just do whatever they like out here. Ive wanted to say something to the boy or his parents but my husband keeps telling me not to because he is worried if I say soemthing and make them angry that they could do something to our home.
 
I hear you Jessica... we live on several acres in a rural area, and I like to think you should be able to do what you want to do on your own land, with a little common courtesy. Apparently your neighbor & mine are both lacking in that department. I deal with their dogs being left outside some nights and then they bark all night at the coyotes. AOne night I was ready to go bang on their door - how dare they sleep thru their dogs if I can't
 
That sucks that the cops can't do anything about it. Sorry you're going through this, can't you get an airhorn, stand in your yard and use it all night? ;)
 
We lived in a house for 3 years, and I swear, the entire time, there was a dog across the street that barked. He barked all day, all night, constantly without a break, ever. The dog was never allowed inside, and the first few months I was there, I seriously cried, because I was so tired. There was nothing they would do about it though.

I hope you figure something out, I totally understand how you feel.
 
That really really sucks. :( I'm very shocked the police couldn't do anything about it. I hope that you are able to do something to make the noise not so loud in your house. We went through the same thing with one of our neighbors but they just happened to stop one day. SO, keeping my fingers crossed that he "gets bored" with the drumming!
 
Ugh, I can't believe it doesn't drive his parents nuts!?!! I wish I had some good advice, but other than talking to his parents, I don't what else to suggest if the police won't/can't help :(

Seriously though.....how inconsiderate. And what is wrong with his parents? Geesh, people today. :thumbdown:
