Travel Album - thoughts needed please!

I have years and years of vacation photos to scrap. I always get started on an album and then never finish. So I'm curious how others would tackle this. Would you

A. Make an album for each trip and just work through it as you can.

B. Make an album that has several pages of highlights from each trip so you had something finished and then go back and maybe make a album for each trip?

So tell me your thoughts. I'm thinking B would give me something I could have in my house faster. Of course I also need to scan pics and make a wedding album and try to finish an album for my oldest who graduates high school in 2 years.

Too many projects!!!
 
Oh, I hear you on project overload... this is my year that I get those projects done, but so far, I'm not doing too well making that goal a reality. :(

I'm behind two trips... if it's a big trip, it gets its own album... I load all the templates with photos and journaling and then go back and "decorate"... if it's a short trip - like long weekends, they just got a page in the year scrapbook. I also try to give myself a deadline... usually it's Thanksgiving, because the family wants to see them. But the last trip to Florida, I can't decided on how I want to scrap them... all my vacation albums are starting to look alike, haha.
 
Hmm, I think my question would be why do you start and then never finish? What's the sticking point?
 
I'm in the same boat as you so I'll be watching this thread :D

We haven't taken very many vacations that are worthy of a whole album but the 2 that I really want to finish and haven't are a 2006 trip to WDW and our cross-country summer trip in 2013. I get started and then get bored :blink:
 
If you go with B, I'm not sure how realistic is to think you'd actually go back later after you've done the highlights. If you're not set on a bound book, how about doing a vacation album with highlights you've scrapped ( as you suggested in b), then fill in with project life protectors with just photos. If you're like me, there will be pictures you're more motivated to scrap, then others that you'd like to include but aren't necessarily thrilled about scrapping them.
 
I don't make specific vacation albums. for ONE trip I either add the sheets into the regular chronological books,

OR I have one special 'Ski Vacation' album. I add to it every year. It's really fun to look at because my son can see himself (& his cousins) grow and change over those vacations each year! I think that's what I would do. A 'Vacations Album' or a 'Disney Album' or a 'Cruises Album'...
 
For a big trip like Disney I make separate albums. If it is small trips I usually just include as part of my regular layouts.

I also like making mini theme albums. I'm currently working on one about our mini golf trips. I noticed over the years, especially on vacations, we seem to take the kids mini golfing. I thought it would be fun to include all of those mini golf trips in one album and see where we've been as well as watch the kids grow up on the mini golf courses.

Have you seen Traci Reed's How to Finish A Disney Project Life Album in 5 Days? Maybe it would be a way you could get a lot done fast and then include a highlight layout or two of more traditional scrapbooking for the bigger trips if you want.

I have a 25 Days of Thanks album which is super cute....I got to day 23 and gave up!! Maybe I'm only Thankful for 23 things :p

I'll be watching this thread too!

Honestly the sticking point is that I have limited time. I work on several CT's. So I always have to work with something new versus being able to work on the projects I really want to finish.

Picking out what photos to use is daunting as well. Then remembering where we went and what happened is getting harder and harder, but at least photos tell part of the story.

The other thing is we do 1-2 big trips a year. So it's 15 days of vacation (that are packed full each day) to scrap. Seems like sooo much!
 
I would make a single album since you're "behind" and make it a "Oh, the Places We've Gone" type of thing. Multiple pages (maybe 2-6 depending) per trip with your favorite photos only that capture the scenic highlights and the fun (or not so much fun) you had. I think travel photos generally speak for themselves, so a few lines about how I felt during the trip and where and when each photo was taken would be enough for me.

Since CT stuff cuts into some of your personal memory scrapping time, I would schedule working on your travel album as soon as the new travel kits start hitting the store. That way you can work on your project and not be overwhelmed with other things as much. You can always use a template now and get all your pictures arranged and journaling captured. Then you can just plop papers and elements into place.

Change your album cover and go with 23 and call it done!!! :w00t:
 
This won't help where you are now, but when we're coming up on something big I decided how I'm going to scrap it in advance. What template I'm going to use, how many photos I'm going to include each day (I usually break down big trips by day), then as the day progresses I know I'm going to need one shot from activity X or two shots from activity Y...

As for now, I would do A...but then I'm not a big summary page person either.

(I have decided on some of my recent trips to just make a photo book instead of a scrapbook...simply to get them done faster... I've been trying to be open to trying new things are realizing that there's more than one way to record a memory...)
 
For me it depends on how long the trip was. Like I spent a week in nyc so I had a ton of photos so I made it's own album, but most places it's just a few days so I don't have as many photos.... For these I have a general travel album where I sum each trip up in two to four pages.
