today I felt old :sob:

Julie Billingsley

The Ghost of Awesome Past
My oldest son turned 18 yesterday (happy birthday Jacob!!) and today he registered for the DRAFT  and for VOTING  Sigh.... this is a tough day for me. No more baby. :(

Happy birthday to Jacob!!!

I'm dreading the day my boys hit 18--JP hitting 10 last month was hard enough!

oh julie! that is amazing!

wow! can you believe you've actually raised a grown person!?! you should be really very proud, that is INCREDIBLE!

My grandma said to me last year when I was whining about turning 29 that I should think about how she feels as the grandma of a 29 year old. That cracked me up.

Happy Birthday, Jacob!

Awww ~ I feel for you - my Jacob turns 15 on the 16th.... Ill be there soon!!! BTW - Happy Birthday Jacob!!!

hehe so i suppose i shouldnt whine that my son is 6 months on Thursday and i dont know where that 6 months went so quick? lol

oh my word, julie!! happy birthday to your 'baby' boy (hahaha. i'm sure he would love being called a baby.) wow. i don't look forward to that day. HUGS!!!

Julie - I'm right behind you! My oldest turns 18 in April. I'm not sad...we've entered into a different time of our life, that's all. It's incredible to see the man he has grown into being. So very proud of him. It's what we as moms have worked so hard for - to see our children become individuals that can stand alone and apart from us. It's like achieving a huge goal! Congrats!

I'm glad you all understand :) I'd like to keep him my baby forever. It is just so so weird to know that now he has the power of voting and the responsibility of protecting the USA in event of a draft. How can that be?! It's overwhelming! And Julie Marie, don't get me started on graduation and going off to college. sniff sniff I'm incredibly proud of him, but I'd kill for a time machine right now to transport him back to a younger age right now.

Oh...happy birthday to Jacob!! I know how hard it is to think of them as grownups and not as babies anymore

I've been feeling old to because my birthday was last sunday. Also, my "baby" brother turned 19 on Christmas. Its so hard for me to believe that he's in college.

My oldest turned 18 in November. I am ok with that though. Well mostly LOL. I kinda dreaded it for months but once it came and went it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. She has not registered to vote yet though. I need to get her to do that. She was so disappointed that she could not vote in 2008 because she was still to young.

I hear ya ... mine turned 21 in December!!! ...registered for the draft??? I THINK kids are automatically registered here in Kansas when they get their drivers license ... because mine never filled out any paperwork ... seems like there was some blip about it when he got his license ... which means they would be registered before age 18 if they got their license.

I hate that kids grow up! My son is 4 1/2 and I can't believe that! I don't want to think about the day he turns 18! My daughter is 6 months old and that's gone by fast enough already!

I feel old thinking, "oh my God, I'm 25 now? What?!" lol!

Well, anyway.... Happy Birthday Jacob!

Interesting! They don't do it automatically in Oregon. My son got his license when he was 16 anyway so he wasn't eligible to register for the draft then. The SSS site says you have to be at least 17 to preregister. Here is the site if your boys still need to do it. One reason it was foremost in my mind was that it's been a question while we've been filling out college and scholarship apps recently.

Oh happy birthday to your son! And if I had had my kids when I was suppose to they would both be close to that age too :) I'll be real old by the time mine are eighteen! haha!

Really? Where has the time gone?!?! I remember when he was just starting high school! Happy birthday to him and a big (((hug))) for you!
