Tips for using brushes

I need help with flourish/swirl/plume type brushes. I wasn't too happy with how they came out in my last LO. Seems like there's so much more you can do with them than just using them like a stamp. Do you blend, play with opacity, etc?

Share some secrets!

CC greatly appreciated if you wanna look at my last page....

I think the brush use on your last page is just darling :) It totally depends on the LO what I do with the brush.. sometimes I blend.. sometimes I lower the opacity :D :D it just depends what I want to do LOL.

I think your page looks great.

Gosh, you've made me realize I just basically stamp with brushes too. at the most I might change the color.

You could also use brushes as masks I suppose or to cut out stuff.

(this sounds like the makings of a challenge . . . ?)

I think the swirls look great too. Was there a different look you were hoping to achieve? Or what would you like to be different about them? I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions and ideas too.

Sometimes I use them as templates too!

Or if you make sure you put the stamps on a separate layer you can play around with the (the word escapes me !) type of layer it is on the "Layers Palette". Just play around with the normal/screen/color burn/overlay etc. and see what happens. :)

Here's some examples catching my eye (hope it's okay to post these):

oooh! those examples are inspiring me! i never thought about using them as templates or masks to cut out papers, cool!

This is a great thread! I will definitely try to start using brushes for more than just a stamp now! What a great idea to use them as templates/masks! Can't wait to try it out!

I agree!!! I always just used them as stamps, might have to try something new!!

Looks like with all three of those, the bursh was used like a template (or could achieve the look using it like a template). The second one looks like a grunge swirl brush was used.

Sounds like a fun challenge... check out the announcement forum in a bit!! ;)
