Ok, so I got the stuff I think I will need to start one, I got the board book (obviously!), Paper Mod Podge matte acid free (?) just a few questions though!

1. I have an Epson printer, and I usually print my LO out on Matte heavy weight paper, is this ok for this kind of project?

2. What exactly do I use the mod podge for???:blink: I know it is glue as well as a sealer, so does that mean I glue the page to the book with it as well as brush it on top??

just a beginner at the hybrid stuff and I really wanted to give it a shot!

You can print the LO on whatever you want, the matte heavy weight should be fine. I use cardstock too.

The mod podge is a glue yes, and a sealer. So you can use it to glue the LO's to the book (just make sure to use a relatively thin layer), and then on top to seal it.
 
The Matte Heavyweight paper should be fine for printing on, but like Col said there are lots of things you can print on like cardstock and other kinds of paper.

Also you don't have to use the Mod Podge over the top of your project. I never do, but then mine have been gifts for the grandparents so I haven't been worried about little hands touching them all the time. I did buy some Krylon spray sealer to use on the outside of projects but I haven't used it yet. If you are going to mod podge the outside of your pages I would do it on a test page first to make sure it won't make the ink run when you brush it on. I've heard some people have that problem with the Mod Podge.
 
Also, when using mod podge, make sure it's DRY before putting the top coat on. You don't want to seal a wet layer, as it'll just cause even more problems with bubbling. And if you live in a humid area, go ahead and get the krylon sealer to use on the top instead of using another layer of mod podge. Sometimes, the mod podge can take on the humidity of your area, and cause the book to be sticky all the time.

If you use a foam brush to put on your mod podge, use a light touch, it will help reduce the number of bubbles you have to deal with.

ETA: these are my experiences with mod podge in doing altered albums, books and projects. It may not be everyone's experience.

I have seen it at Michael's but I actually got mine in the paint department at Walmart but it may be in their craft dept too though. The one I got is called Krylon Matte Finish #1311 but I think it comes in a glossy version too depending on your preference.
 
My sister says they have a big Scrapbooking store in Indy and we are heading there this weekend...I may have to go find one of the basic grey albums, I am itching to use Dani's Bunny Trail Album...
So I should get some modge podge and some spray sealant?

If you want to make the album, I suggest it ;) :p

Hahaha, sorry Shannon, but yea. You'll need some sort of adhesive, and some sort of sealant if you want the kids to be able to play with it.
 
Do NOT laugh at me COL...I hate messy...The last time I used ModgePodge was for my unity candle...my wedding was in 2001, sooooo thats how long its been, I bet I have that crusty ole bottle of stuff around here somewhere.
I would love to have a tape of how many times I cussed out that candle of supposed love while I was making it.

Your'e gonna hate me for saying this, but.....you could've used a hair dryer or an embossing gun to heat up the wax to hold the paper in place. That's what I'll be doing for wedding favors, lol.

You could probably get away with using a an adhesive roller of some sort on the BG albums. They are covered in paper usually, not just straight chipboard, so the adhesive sticks to it a little better. You could always try that and then use the mod podge if it doesn't work out good enough. And use a spray sealant too if you hate mod podge that much, lol.

An ambossing gun is like a hair dryer, except it puts out more heat than air. So it's not windy like a hair dryer would be. It melts embossing powder in a flash, it's awesome.
 
I agree with all that has been said about ModPodge. One hint - get a brayer or scraper or something with a smooth edge and immediately after you glue your paper down, start in the center and push outward to remove all air bubbles from under the paper.

Also, if you are incapable of cutting a neat straight line (as I am) or if you are doing a shaped album - cut your LO slightly larger all around - at least 1/4 of an inch all around. Glue it down and smooth out the air bubbles. Once it is dry, run your fingers around the eges, creasing the paper over the cardboard edge. Next take one of those finger nail files that are gritty stuff applied over a foam core - I think they are mostly for acrylic nails - and file perpendicular to the edge of the book. With heavier papers it takes several strokes in the same area, but you get a completely clean, neat beautiful edge that conforms exactly to the book! Your book will factory made!! Ali Edwards uses this method ;)
 
That is a great tip, I use an exact o knife and it is a pain in the tush. I like your tip much better!!!!! Thanks

I do something similar to what Heather described & it is so much easier! I haven't tried it with the nail sanding blocks I use the kind you get in the hardware area and the end result is the same!

Also if you are afraid of mod podge lol try an adhesive runner like the Xyron Cheetah, they work great on chipboard & board books and are super easy to use!
 
I think I'm the only person alive who hates their Xyron, lol. I have the 510 and it always leave adhesive on the papers in the wrong spot. I'm not even getting a refill for it.
 
i'm working on a hybrid (well, part Hybrid) and i used modge podge as glue and so far it looks fine, no air bubbles but i used a foam brush and a very thin layer and smoothed the heck out of it once i layed the paper down. i bought some spray sealer the other day and when i find it (lol) i'll use it for a sealer. too afraid to put modge podge on it, lol.
 
wow, thanks for the tips girls! I have never used Mod podge and now I'm kinda afraid!!!:p Now I just need to decided what i am going to make the book of! :p
