This article has me so upset

I don't buy our newspaper but I end up seeing most of them from my aunt who brings them down after she reads them. Well, THIS COVER STORY of today's just has me so upset and :cursing: At least this online article doesn't have the picture of the tiny baby deer on it.

More than just this article has had me upset though. Lately, there have been so many torturous stories. One, of how they are going to start having annual gatherings in our local parks to try to shoot and get rid of all the geese in our area and another article about keeping animals away from your house that mentioned different nasty things to do to keep them away and one of them being

Another deterrent, he said, is to fill a balloon with bleach and put peanut butter and jelly on the outside of the balloon so the animal will bite it.

What is it with Pennsylvania and why do they have to have such a hatred towards animals. Ok, my rant is over. I have a soft heart for animals and things like this just get to me.

As far as this article... yeah, that's a sad story but it's the order of things. In many areas, bears are shot simply because tourists stop and get out of their vehicles to watch them. Humans who are not properly trained to interact with wild animals, do far more harm than good. If they harbored in zoos and refuges every animal that every well-meaning person found, it would overwhelm that system. Where else can these animals go? They can't go back into nature. It's not hatred, it's necessary.

As far as the goose story, overpopulation of any animal must be handled. How else do you contain the population so that the remainder can survive? If they're not "culled" they will die of disease, starvation, or being struck by vehicles, etc.? Then, what do you do when the overpopulation of geese causes an overpopulation of foxes and coyotes (predators of the goose)? It's a delicate balance and sadly, people (trained) have to step in. ETA: I find it hard to believe that they would propose that ALL geese be shot, that seems irresponsible considering the benefit of fertilizer that they bring. But who knows, some people do get shoot-happy lol

The story about keeping animals away with bleach seems a little harsh though, I will give you that. Why would we want more chemicals out and about in nature where it can get into our lakes and such and disrupt the system further? So yeah, that doesn't make any sense to me.
