they denied us.

the financing for a new furnace.

don't know what we'll do now, unless DH can get ahold of the VA. they have lots of programs to help those in need. we just don't have that kind of cash to go out and buy one, and no credit card.

i don't understand. my husband gets his VA money every month. its government money, it won't stop. he will always get it. so i hate that they denied us, just cause we aren't 'working'. morons. even if i had some part time crap job they still would have denied us probably. our credit isn't that bad though. i'm so mad.

yes. yes it does suck.

the kerosene heater works for now, but then we are limited on how long we can stay gone on really cold days. don't want the pipes to freeze up again. and kerosene is like three something a gallon. a lot of times near the end of the month, we strapped for cash. we'll freeze, lol. i do have $50 in my car we put aside just for kerosene. hopefully we'll be okay.

I'm so sorry. What a bunch of losers! There has to be service groups who help cover this type of temporary need through the city or county. Do you have a 211 referral service available? Try them. http://www.211.org/ Also, check with the school district office. Ask for pupil services. They should have a list of support services that they use. In our city, they offer things like paying a mortgage/rent or utility bills, etc. good luck. I hope something comes through for you guys.

Unfortunately, it isn't just how much you have coming in that they take into account, it's how much you have going out. I'm so sorry they denied you. It seems like they would have some kind of plan for you since it's the friggin winter.

argggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh!!! that was one big growl from me to you.. crap poop and pee (i'm 5).

i know. and we have a lot going out. electric, water softener (we have a well) Aarons rent-to-own (couches)cable, internet, cell phone, gas, big car payment, health insurance, car insurance, small credit card bill. i think that's it, lol. it averages around $1500 or so a month in our bills. but that still leaves us with adequate $$ after that. luckily, we own our home so no mortgage or rent. stupid banks. my dad gave us the idea to go on our own somewhere and use our truck as collateral. its paid off. we're only looking for $2000 or less, not sure really. probably less than that. we'll figure it out. its going to get into the single digits wednesday/thursday. hopefully the kerosene and space heaters will prevent the pipes from freezing.

Now that's where I find this unbelievable! It's friggin winter and it's gonna be in single digits and they are denying you what you need to heat your home? That's unforgivable in my book.

What about a short term loan? You can use collateral on it so they dont lose. We had to get one of those not long ago because we needed a little extra cash for an emergency like that and we do not have credit cards (dont believe in them actually I prefer to pay cash or save up for what we need) My husband found a loan company called Sunbelt Credit and we got a small loan from them and used our car as collateral. We have to pay it back over 12 months and it wont cost much to pay it back.

I know what you've feeling (well, sort of anyway). We got denied financing for a new AC/furnace last summer when ours was dying, and the weather outside was 110+. Never mind the fact that we could pay, but oh well...I'm hoping it'll suffer through another year or two with us.

this is what we are going to try next. we'll use the truck as collateral. surely, considering what its for, someone has to help us out. its not like i'm trying to buy something frivolous.

oh man, i hope you get it work out...it's getting cold here in Indy over the next few days...stay warm and safe!

Wow I just can not believe that people who pay there bills are denided and you see people who have poor credit get loans..makes no sense. I sure hope your new plan works out for you.

i know!! we're not that far from you. our furnace first went out that weekend before christmas when it got to single digits and below zero. i'm worried about our pipes freezing again. had to have them come out twice to fix them the first time. that cost us around $300. i can't afford to keep doing that! i still have my washer to get fixed hopefully soon!

So this may sound harsh, but have you thought about cutting out the cable? I know we don't get it because I just can't stomach the thought of spending at least $600 a year on TV. And honestly, we don't miss it. We watch movies or play games instead. So if you're looking for some extra cash for monthly payments, that might help.

And really think VERY carefully about short term loans. They can turn around and bite you in the rear in the long run. But I know you need a furnace, so sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Another though--do you belong to a church? I know there are churches that will sometimes help their members if they're struggling with necessities, and I think your circumstance would probably fall into that category.

{{{{HUGS}}}}} Corey! So sorry you have to go through this!

You need to contact the state, Corey. Your three little kids are 'collateral.' The state cannot let you freeze with them in your house.

i know cable isn't a necessity. but i like it,lol. we do okay. we don't belong to a church. i'm going to call around or go places to see what we can do today. my bank is one option. thanks for all the advice and warm thoughts. we'll get it figured out.

Corey, like LA said you need to contact your State, call your congressman's office or something, they will be able to help you out. Good luck and I'm sorry you are having so much trouble!

I agree with Pam....call your state and local officials. I know that Massachusetts (my state) has an affordable energy program to help those in your situation.....you just have to do some research today on the internet and find out whom to contact. Also, in your first thread on your furnace, I posted contact information for your local Red Cross and Catholic Charities (you don't have to belong to a church to get services)....I am sure they can help you.

Good luck,
Susan

i know there is public assistance, but i'm so afraid they'll look at what we have coming in and they won't help. granted, half of that goes out to pay bills, but still. and then i feel bad cause there are people out there a lot worse off than us. i don't mind making payments. we can afford to. i tried to find work. i haven't been able too. i'm just going to have to swallow my pride and do what i have to do, even if it means some sort of charity.

Im sorry you are going through this sweety. I can understand your positon we have totally been there ourselves. I hope that you get it all sorted out soon honey. I will be thinking about ya. Big hugs!
