The magic is over ....

Our little boy...our wee little boy (he's really 9, but still my wee boy)....now knows that the leprechauns aren't real :(

It's been coming in little hints here and there, and he's picked up on clues we didn't mean to leave. And earlier this week, some bigger kids were making fun of him because he still believed in Leprechauns and fairies and magic. He and Daddy were talking this evening, and it just sort of went into that conversation and it all began to dawn on him. There were so many tears..he was heartbroken. But he firmly believes that even though all the other stuff isn't real, the TOOTH FAIRY IS ALIVE AND WELL!

It was so sad...and kind of big in a way. My little boy is growing up, becoming more of a man every day, but my mommy heart is sad at that at the same time as being so proud of him.

*sigh*. Can't they just stay young and innocent forever?

Awww that is so sad! :(

Benjamin still believes in Santa, he'll be 9 in September, and I'll be so sad when he doesn't believe anymore.

I wish they'd all stay little, it'd be easier on mommies.

Awww!!! That would be such a sad day in our house. On the same note....I can so see our youngest ruining the fun for our oldest! LOL

Well we never did anything with leprechauns so this was all new to me...however...my mom always said (about Santa) "as long as you believe there will be presents under the tree"...although she did have me stay up in 2nd grade and watch her set up my brother and sister's items...and mine were magically out in the morning...but the magic was GONE.

so...my kids have never seen Christmas morning ruined...but the promise of "as long as you believe there will be presents under the tree" has been my promise...and I remember hearing a few years ago (mine are 20, 15, and 13) the two younger were talking and the youngest asked the middle one...IS THERE...and he said I don't know but I'm not taking any chances! It was everything I could do to keep from bursting out laughing.

They will make references and wink at me to let me know that they know there is no Easter bunny...but they won't come out and say it...they will say we love hunting eggs! lol

I had to tell my 5 yo that it was me who did all the tricking yesterday. He was paranoid to leave the house today b/c he was afraid the little men would break into our house again. Poor kid. lol

Awww....I totally feel for you, Darcy. Both my boys still believe, I think. They tell me about how some of their friends at school don't believe in Santa, Easter Bunny, etc., but THEY still believe. At Christmas, Geary (almost 10) asked me if I believe in Santa and I told him very emphatically that *I* still believe - which is totally true.

Sharon, I love what you have done with your kids. I think I need to tell them the same thing. It's a great way to keep a little bit of the magic :)
