The Dreaded Credits List...

Do any of you guys ever find yourselves putting off uploading a LO because of the sheer amount of credits you're going to have to hunt down??

Am I the only lazy daisy here??

heh i keep a notepad of credits as I go..I'm pretty much a kit scrapper but do pull a ribbon or hardware here or there

yep, a notebook or journal of somekind is the best! even sticky notes will work. You can make up a little altered journal so you've got something pretty to keep your notes in. :)

If I can't upload it right away I keep a list in my Evernote. If I do upload it right away, I can tell who made what just by looking at it, although sometimes I need help remembering the fonts, if they are ones I don't normally use.

Oh goody, hahah...thanks for that! :D ANOTHER thing I just have to use...

(downloading right now)

I usually open the notepad on my lappy and as I am scrapping i will type it out. Then all I gotta go is copy and paste!

Nah, I just write them down as I go and then type them out at the first upload and c&p from there. It's not too bad most of the time.

Oh I LOVE my Evernote! I have it so I can right click on highlighted text or just a whole page and it sends it to my Evernote (along with a link to the original URL). When I make an appointment, it goes in there. When I have complaints to Dell, Futureshop, etc. to document it, it goes in there. When I find a recipe, it goes in there. I have TONS of stuff in my Evernote and it's all there on a double click of the icon! :)

*no, this isn't an infomercial, I just really love Evernote. LOL*

I use Elements 4.0. If I am on top of it, I open a new tag with the LO name. Then I will tag the items as "IN USE". This way later, I just have to go back, open that tag and the file info is right there. :)

Sounds complicated, but is easier than going back trying to remember who I used. BTDT too many times.

that's why i said it, silly! my 10 year old dd used to love that show when she was a babe. she still hates joe! lol. =)

Another notebook keeper here! I made a pretty little hybrid one at the beginning of the year. eventually I want to print out 2"x2" copies of teh lo's and glue them next to their proper credits, so I have a little piece of heavy duty cardstock cut to 2x2 that I trace. I fit 2 on a page if I'm just using one kit or a handful, but everyone and a while one needs it's own page cuz I go crazy and pull things from all over, lol. It's definitely easy for me to do it this way cuz I'm kit scrapper too for the most part.

I upload pretty much everything to at least 1 website {for me usually ACOT} and put all of my credits there...then when I get around to uploading to other sites, I just copy and paste from there...I have never kept anything handwritten anywhere:blink: and that might be a bad thing, but I keep a blank word document open and then type what I am using as I go on the LO...if not I would NEVER remember what I used..then I just copy from word and paste into my upload description~that's just how I do it~

I keep track as I'm making the layout in the File Info section in PSE6. Then when I'm saving the file for web I copy the credits into a Notepad document, I keep one doc going for the whole month and use that to copy my credits when I'm posting in the gallery. I may have to check out this Evernote thing that Jen posted about though!

I have a notebook next to the keyboard that I jot down what I am using (unless I am kit scrapping, then I don't).
I am gonna have to check out that Evernote business though!! Just one more thing for my overloaded computer, LOL!!!

That's totally why I became a kit scrapper because I hate tracking down what I scrapped with. I scrap on a lap top so I'm all over the house with it and I'm never near a notebook when I need to make note of it. I think I might have to try out that Evernote thing.

Since I always have my Outlook express email open, I usually open a new email and start a list in there. Then it's just copy and paste when posting my layout  otherwise I'd have a bunch of little scraps of paper on my desk.... oh wait, I already do LOL....

I tried keeping track of credits in Notepad as I create my LO but that didn't work very well for me b/c I change my mind a lot about what I use.

So I just rename the layers in the layers palette as I go with the kit name and designer name in an abbreviated form.

Then when I'm done I type up the list in notepad.

add me to the list of people who will be checking out Evernote.

Oooh...you guys are so good. I kinda sorta go by memory...and what I see on the page. Now, when I design stuff, I have a tendency to alter stuff beyond recognition, so I do kind of have a method for that if I'm using a designer tool.

I just use the File Info from CS2. I tried using Notepad, but it's just not the way I think. I like everything in nice, tidy little spot :D

When I was a paper scrapper, I used to have an index card for each LO to keep track of the supplies as I used them. Then I'd put them all in a filing box. I used to do that with digi, but now I keep the files I'm using open until I'm done with the LO, as I change my supplies as I go along a lot of times. Then I write them down at the end in a small fat notebook - 1 page per LO. The only time I write them down before I have it done is if I have to completely shut down my computer down before the LO is completed.

I like to mix kits and change my mind alot when doing layouts, so a notebook would be hard for me.

Instead, I like to use PSE's Place command when making my layouts.
Just click
File,
Place,
Browse to find whatever you want to put in your layout (turn on thumbnails so you can see what's in your kits).

It puts the paper, element or whatever I chose in my layout and the filename becomes the name of the layer in the layers palate, so I don't have to remember anything. Then, when my layout is finished I just make a new text document and put my credits in there for uploading to galleries.

The only problem I have with this system is when designers don't save alphas, etc in separate files, and I have to open the file and cut and paste what I want the old fashioned way. I hate that.

* Note to designers - please put alphas and everything in separate files and name the files with designer, kitname, elementname. :) *wink* I know I'm asking alot. Maybe someone with the fullblown PS could write an action that would do that for us.

I jot them all down at the end of finishing a LO by closing all the open elements and papers at once. I hardly ever close a LO without finishing and I'm mainly a kit scrapper too.

As a designer, I do this because I've heard this request over and over, but as a scrapper, I prefer them all in one file. I HATE opening individual alpha files.

And your tip about Place is a cool one!

I try to stick with mostly one kit and then it's not so bad. But on the occasions where i feel the urge to mix and match, yah, its a pain! This Evernote looks cool; downloading now!

I create a new text box IN MY LAYOUT and type in my credits in there as I go. Simply hide it to work on your page and reveal it when needed to add credits! To hide: (in PSE) simply click the eye icon next to the layer's name in the layers pallette, click again to reveal -OR- put the layer at the back and then bring it forward when needed.
Then when you upload, copy + paste!
Except for one of my CTs since I have to link....

Normally I just rename my layers, but somehow or another, I got all lazy today and ended up with a huge mess! (Especially since I use the Jack and Jill Collection all the time, and I like to credit each kit separately instead of just the "Jack and Jill Collection"... I just used way way way more elements than I usually do on a Cookie Decorating Challenge and got in over my head!!

So.. the answer is "No, we're not as lazy as you, Bryn."
:p

Before I close out Photoshop I save all the credit info in the 'file info' field. That way, when I am uploading, I can just copy and paste the info into the galleries. Makes my life SO much easier!

I leave everything open until I have finished the layout because I often start one way and have it end up looking completely different, then I type up a super quick notepad document and save it on my computer. When I do get around to actually uploading the layouts I used an addon for Firefox called Linkwad I have wads set up for different things like sweet shoppe challenges, ct assignments I find that opening everything in one click followed by some copying and pasting doesn't take me very long. Hope that helps someone. Hugs Crystal xx
