The Big Count Down!!!!

So... 2010 is only a few weeks away! Crazy, huh?!?!

At what age did your kids start staying up to watch the countdown? My son's 4 and hasn't stayed up yet. Not sure if I'll let him this year or not....

When our kids were smaller...the countdown was a 10'o'clock. They hadn't learned to tell time, yet, and since their bedtime was still 7:30 or so, 10 was a really long way away lol. So it was 'midnight' to them.

Now that we did something so stupid as to teach them how to tell time, we can't get away with it LOL. You can always try it - it's one day - there can just be mandatory naptime the next day if yours aren't napping any longer ;)

We let our (then) 8yo stay up to watch the countdown at 11 (the midnight one in NY) and see the ball drop last year. That was his first time.

They both made it last year, but that's the first year they've stayed up. I told them that if they can stay up, they can do it. So we'll see if they make it this year.

I haven't yet, nor do I plan to do it this year. D's seven, JP will be 10 on the 17th. Neither one would make it to 11pm (central time here), and since we don't actually watch the NYE specials, it's no big deal for us.

most years I am not even up for hte countdown let alone my kids LOL. If they arent cranky/tired I let them stay up since they were five or six I guess.

My son stayed up when he was 1...ok he was just the worst sleeper back then but other than that year he hasn't been able to make it...I may let him stay up this year but he is such a whiner when he's sleepy...

Well... since my father in law has a big band radio show New Years Eve...so, as long as that show is on the air, kiddo won't have a traditional countdown... last year, kiddo being 1.5, was up until 10... then laid down for a while and then we got him up a few minutes before midnight so we could say "Happy New Year" and then bundled up and put in the car to go home...

Otherwise, I remember I was 8 when I got to stay up the first time to midnight.

My older one made it until midnight last year and was asleep by 12:30 after the fireworks were done. He was 6. His 5 year old brother put himself to bed about 10:30. We had a party & other kids were here. The 7 year old and 4 year old both stayed up until midnight & were so wired their parents had to take them home at 1am because they would not lay down but every suggestion of a quiet activity made them freak out in hysterics. Not pretty at all.

I cant remember when my kids DIDNT stay up for it. Maybe when they were really young babies but I've always been pretty flexible on new years. There were times they fell asleep on the couch, but I gave them the choice :)

I don't remember, but since my kid are NIGHT OWLS, all of them 16,8, 3 and 2...they have NO ISSUE hanging until midnight...but I was in Kuwait last year so they didn't, and the year before the 2 little ones were too small....and this year I have duty!!! hopefully the LAST holiday duty I have to stand until I retire!!!!! but we don't usually make a big deal of it, but if we are up the kids like to watch the ball drop~
