Turns out one of my friends is on it! As in still. Last I heard from her on Facebook they still had several more hours to wait before getting off the boat. I knew she was going on a cruise, just didn't know it was THAT one.
 
I have a friend on a cruise too...but I THINK she's in the Atlantic

There's only 1 working elevator for 14 floors of the ship...crazy!
 
It's stories like this that will totally turn my hubby off to ever going on a cruise. I've been on two and had great experiences both times. Grrrrrr.....
 
I hadn't heard about this - but I don't watch the news much. My husband has been trying to convince me to do a cruise for a few years now and I am not interested....just when I start to consider it - I hear something like this! Lol. Don't know what happened but I hope everyone is ok.
 
It's really sad that these peoples' vacation turned out like this. I hope Carnival gives them a refund or at least a free cruise.
 
This is what I read, "The cruise line said it would give each passenger $500, a free flight home, a full refund for their trip and for most expenses on board, as well as a credit for another cruise."
I don't know how they'll stay in business after they pay all that out, fix their boat and then have a drop in passengers.

This was my exact thought too! They're doing all this for 4000 passengers! I heard on the news yesterday morning that there is raw sewage sloshing around in some areas, that people were taking mattresses outside because with no air conditioning or water for 4 days that things were get a bit ummm, ripe :blink: Evidently a fire broke out in an engine room, which then caused power failure, etc.
 
In addition to the payout Kellie mentioned, they've pulled the boat for the next few months to make repairs, so they're having to help all those people who were scheduled for cruises find alternates... or many of those people are cancelling. Cruises have never sounded like my thing, but after following this news story, I'm more than sure they're not for me.
 
...and this is the 2nd major fire on this same boat.

What's weird, the cruise ship is prepared for an environmental breakdown because it had tents available for passengers to sleep deckside. It will be interesting to hear the stories that begin to come out now that people can communicate on more than smart phones and texts...
 
What I don't understand is all the people who said they ran out of clothes or medicine. If I'm going on a boat, I'm for sure going to have packed enough stuff for at least a week - ya gotta have options, right? Was it just an issue of not being able to keep curtains meds cold or something?
 
i cannot even begin to imagine. ohthehorror! it pretty much puts the last nail in the "never going on a cruise. Ever." coffin for me. nohthankyou. o_O
 
My son and new daughter-in-law just got back from a cruise for their honeymoon. I am so glad this didn't happen to them. I feel so sorry for all the passengers aboard this ship. Isn't this the cruise company that always has sickness on board?

This exactly. If you are leaving the country, be smart and pack a few extra pills. Duh.

Colby and I got off a Carnival cruise last Saturday and would totally get on another tomorrow. We listening to interviews last night and people would say, "we had food and water the whole time." Five minutes later, the reporter said they had gone with food and water for days. No, that's not what the passenger said. I'm sure it was a horrible experience, but millions cruise every year. The chances are so slim.

Also, you sign a contract when you cruise that pretty much says Carnival is resposible for nothing. They really are going above and beyond to make it right.

I think everyone should at least try a cruise once. It may not be for you, but we had a fabulous time last week.

I agree! These stories are few and far between. Both of my cruises were with Royal Caribbean. We had a great experience both times and even hearing this story wouldn't stop me from cruising again. I want to either go on a Disney Cruise or an Alaskan Cruise. I'm sure I could talk my hubby into doing one of those.

I don't think they would run out of food. There would be ways to get it to them. All it would take would be a little bit of help from the Coast Guard.
 
For some reason, this story doesn't bother me as much as the stories of the big Roto/Norovirus outbreaks... or people who go overboard or something and never check off the boat.

I think they did kind of know this ship could be a problem before they sailed, so that's pretty stinky of them. I've been on a cruise before and it was an amazing experience. I wish they would stop creating news that dissuades my husband from ever going on one! An Alaskan cruise is something I've been wanting to do with him!

I love cruising and will cruise again in the future..however I will NOT cruise Carnival..DH and I had a bad experience with them years ago and it turned me off. If this had been another cruise line though I'm not sure that it would turn me off to them or not...like others said SO many people cruise and there's a ton more good stories to go along with this one bad one.

It was supposed to just be a three day cruise, they were due back this past Tuesday. The clothes thing is silly, I mean just put 'em back on! But the medicine I get, especially if it was like prescriptions.
 
My friend hasn't mentioned anything about having NO food, but she did say there was a shortage, you had to wait in lines for hours for just a tiny amount, that the ship was absolutely disgusting. They all ended up missing several days of work. She said the inside was soooo hot, and it wasn't just the feces *gag* that made the inside stink but also rotten garbage and the smoke from the fire.
Right now she's saying the only good thing about the whole ordeal is that her kids weren't with her.

It sounds like a complete nightmare... and to be trapped in it with no way to leave! UGH!!!! :unsure:
 
I've never had any desire to go on a cruise.. just too many people and just no escaping i'd feel claustrophobic just knowing if i wanted to get off I couldn't..,

After all the cruise ship horror stories in the last year or two its only made my decision that much stronger LOL!

I have such a puke phobia lol.. I was reading how cruise lines are one of the most common places to get norovirus so thats just one other reason..

on the news..they had a lady from Atlanta that I guess did a small interview..said she waited 3 hours for a hotdog...insane
