do you say Thank You when you download a freebie off someone's blog?

just curious...

i posted a little random freebie on my blog yesterday and had a ton of downloads, but only 2 people said thank you. i kinda think that's rude, only cuz um... ya know i'm the one that put it up bwhahaha but i do confess that i've done the same.

so just curious what YOU do????

I say thank you if I download any goodies unless it is on a site where you have to be a member of to make a comment (I ran into a couple blogs/sites like this). Anyways, I didn't know about this freebie of yours so I'm on my way to go snag it now! WOOOT!
 
ACK, Lauren your dangerous girlfriend!! LOL! I just went to your blog to try to comment & DL your freebie and a message popped up about a virus. Very strange. Has anyone ever had that happen before when going to a website?
 
I try to always say thank-you, but sometimes some blogs make it very difficult if you don't have a blog to sign into.
 
if it is posted on a blog sometimes it wont allow me to say thank you because I have to log in or create an account. If it hosted on 4shared I always say thank you and if the link is shared to the blog on a forum like this then I usually come back and say thank you here. But nine times out of ten I do say thank you.

eeek! i wonder if it's cuz the dl link is from box.net... wonder if that's setting something off for you?

maybe i'll switch that... i haven't heard other people mention it though, sorry chick!

I always try to say thanks if it's hosted on a blogspot blog or a blog that doesn't require a login. I refrain from posting anything at 4shared, because I'm a bit paranoid about that site. But then I also very rarely download freebies, if at all...
 
yeah i don't like when blogs don't let you just enter your name/email/website, i've wanted to respond to blogs before where i had to enter my gmail acct... i never do that cuz then it links to my oooooold blog that i had canceled.

NP! But it wasn't with the download. Actually I didn't even try to DL it...I went to leave you a comment first and as soon as I clicked on comment it popped up.
 
okay i just saw that thing too, i'm gonna have dh look at it (he's my tech guru) and figure out what's goin on.... that virus thing is some kinda spam though....
 
okay, i checked w/ dh... he said that either my host or Wordpress was probably hacked, so i'm off to contact my host person so they can check that.

Oh, cool, at least you found out what it was. :) Would it have done anything on my end or was running Spybot good enough? I never had this happen so I was unsure.

i don't think so, but i've put in a support ticket to my host, so i'll keep ya posted!

i'm running a scan on my computer too.... i THINK it's just spam though trying to get you to buy that virus thing, but if i find out different, i will of course post!!!
 
I do try to say thank you... unless I have to sign up to enter in comments or the blog is not in English and I'm not sure where to click to enter in comments. :p

I, didn't know you had a freebie either... I'll have to check it out!

What they all said and this:

If the freebie is older, say 6+ months, I tend to not say thank you. If/when I use it, I do try to post a link to the blog/site the freebie is from and a link to what I've done on the blog/site.
 
I say thank you if it is easy to say thank you. If I have to log in and then type in a bunch of word verificiation things I might not say thanks.

Sometimes i say thanks even when I don't download the item because I appreciate the generosity.
 
I pretty much say thank you every time, unless for some reason I forget or I have a technical problem where it won't allow me to comment (which I've had happen several times). My intention is to always thank the giver :)
 
i say thank you everytime. :) the only times i haven't is if it's a weird site and i can't get my log-in to work. that has only happened maybe 3 or 4 times ever. :)

You know...from a designer's point-of-view...I see a download as a thank-you...so if I get lots of downloads, I feel like it was appreciated...not-so-many downloads, well, I must have done something wrong. :blink:
 
I try to say thank you everytime (although some people may not "recognize" me by my download name)... but when 4shared is having fits and not letting me put in a comment...that is when I don't leave one. Sometimes I am auto-logged in and it lets me download...other times it does not.

Sometimes people may have to download more than once...like I tried out Google Chrome this weekend and it corrupted every one of the 'free' downloads I tried and never completed downloading my purchases from the SSD store...so had to redo on Firefox.

...but 2? that's just being ungrateful...sigh.
 
when i said this to my DH, he looked at me like i was retarded! ahahhaha especially after i said that i sometimes don't say thank you too.....

okay, so i'm over the whole people not saying thank you.... i'll just chalk it up to people being busy chasing after crazy kids, while trying to scrap AND make breakfast AND shower AND clean the toilets all at the same time! ;)

and

i'll just hope the appreciate the goodies even if they can't say it. ;)

i know i like getting gifties, and i really like giving them too, so i really need to stop acting like a big ol' baby!

(dude and i CAN'T believe none of you said that! bwahhahahha)

Some of my kids have been downloaded over 1000 times, and I'm lucky to get to get 20 comments. I just don't care that much... glad people are downloading it and getting their stories scrapped. Have to say that if people are leaving comments at 4shared, I never see them. I just don't have time to check that site (vs. getting my blog comments sent to my email).

I do try to say thank you, but I use bloglines and if something has a direct link, I often forget to click through to the blog to say thank you.
 
:o and this is beyond wierd, because I'm hyper spaz on snail mailing out hand written thank yous on gifts received within a week, yet.. um... :o leaving a thank you for a digi scrap freebie completely escaped my attention...:blink: :o

SO -- in terms of abject repentance ... where should the thanks be left?

1) in the shoppe forum? where notice of the freebie to non-newsletter subscribers may be posted?

2) in the blog post comments?

3) other?

i say leave it wherever cuz at least you say it right?!

i like it on my blog cuz... i don't know why, just personal preferance i suppose. ;)
