my primary EHD died this morning. I have 2..one that I use solely for backup. My older one started acting funny a few days ago, so thankfully I backed up all my new stuff from DSD so I didn't lose anything. I guess 2 years is a good run for an EHD huh?..now I have to get another one to back up the back up lol.
 
Woot! Thank goodness for 2nd backups. I have the same system for myself. My main one that I use every day is almost 3 years old now, so I was getting a little paranoid about it, lol.

At least with the holidays coming, you should be able to find a good deal on a new backup :)
 
ok you have me worried...the ehd has that short of a life?! she asks in horror!

I have a primary and a back up...I backed up about 3 weeks ago to it...guess i better do that again!
 
Sharon it totally depends. Some last forever, others not so much. It depends on how much use it gets too. Like I said, mine is almost 3 years old and is on everyday for a few hours at night. And I travel with it.

I back up to my 2nd EHD once a month with all downloads from the month, and otherwise it's off. But most of my stuff for the month is also on my laptop HD. So if the main ehd goes, I still wouldn't lose the stuff.
 
So I have an EHD question. I have all my scrapping stuff on my EHD and use it when I scrap instead of using my internal harddrive. is that bad? or do you strickly use your EHD as backup only and only use it when adding your new files. I figured an EHD would be just as tough as an internal harddrive maybe even tougher because there's no programs or operating system on it.....I do backup with Mozy also.
 
It just depends Marcia. If you have a huge stash and a small hd, then it's a bad idea. Personally, I like to keep my laptop's HD as empty as possible, so I use an EHD for my main scrapping. My HD is big enough that I don't NEED to scrap off the EHD, I just prefer to.

I use, well used the one that died daily for all my scrapping..the only thing I keep on my laptop hard drive is my PSP. Everything else goes to the EHD and then backed up to the second EHD..so when I go to scrap I'm using the EHD. The one that died I've had for 2 years and it's been on and used daily. Now I'll just use the one I had for backup daily and get a new one to become my 2nd EHD...lol..I just reread that and I think I confused myself..but to answer your question. Yes I use my EHD as my primary scrapping source.

Oh, I hope 2 years isn't the life of an EHD....thats what mine is and I can't afford a new one right now!!
So glad you had a 2nd though......
 
whew, glad you were backed up!

saw Maxtor One Touch 750 gb at Costco for about $110

WD Passport Elite $350 about $120

some other portable EHDs 250 gb for about $100 also
 
Anyone who is wanting to get a new EHD or a second one, should keep their eyes peeled on Black Friday. I bet lots of electronic stores will have them on sale.
 
i can't find my plug for my EHD and it has everything on it! so i can't get to anything right now...

Good thing you had backup!
 
Good thing for backup. I scrap off of a 250 GB portable HD that I plug into my laptop and back up on a 500 GB EHD. Both are fairly new so I hope I don't have any issues with them in the near future.
 
That is wonderful that you backed up!! I've had my Seagate for three years and it's acting fine *insert knock on wood here* LOL

I have a WD 500GB EHD that I just got on sale for $99 so there are deals to be found. I use it for my primary scrapping as I filled my IHD... I use Mozy for back-up, although techno-dinosaur me had Mozy for 3 months before I realized my firewall was blocking all uploads. Making progress now, but am backing up 45GB, so it's slow going...
