Text help

Do you want to know what annoys the heck out of me? When I am trying to edit a text that is already on my page and when I hit the text tool it starts a new layer instead of editing the one I wanted. I'm sure there is a really simple solution to this problem. What's the trick? I'm using CS5

That is annoying, isn't it? The best solution I've found is to make sure to click well inside the text box after selecting the text tool. That seems to work for me most of the time.

You have to make sure the text tool is hovering right abovea line of the pre-existing text layer. You should notice it will change when you move if off the text to a cursor shape with a box around it... that will start a new layer of text instead of editing the current one.

I think you can also double click the text layer in the Layers Pane in order to edit it. It will automatically select all the text (highlight it) so you can then go in and make your changes.

Another tip . . . if you double click on the thumbnail of the text layer in the Layers palette, it will automatically switch to the Type tool and highlight the text.
