Why do my kids insist on acting like such buttheads at school?

I just got a call from the VP at the high school. They are putting my DS who is almost 16 in ISS (in school suspension) for three days for dropping the F bomb in class!

Now just in case you're wondering why I'm so frustrated. Well, it's because my DD who is almost 15 is already in ISS for the EXACT SAME THING!

I don't think I'd have graduated if I got ISS everytime I dropped the F bomb. I have the mouth of a boatload sailors meeting a truckstop of truckers and starting a war. :blink:

That being said, that sucks. Hopefully they'll have learned their lesson though :)

I know this is prolly not the concensus, but if that's all they're getting in trouble for, I'd secretly be thankful. lol I would still be POd for sure, but thank God they're not doing anything worse.
 
My 2-year-old dropped the f-bomb TWICE yesterday!!! I have to give him some credit for using it absolutely correct contextually and in the exact same tone that my husband would have. It was very hard not to laugh. We didn't make a huge deal out of it, just told him that was a naughty word. A few hours later my hubby banged his shin on the coffee table and said it in front of DS. I made my husband sit in the time-out chair for 2 minutes and DS witnessed that, so hopefully he is getting the idea that the f-word is a no-no!!!

It was definitely a wake-up call to us though that it's time to start watching our own mouth!!!

I got ISS a few times as a teen... one time it was for something kind of minor but it was extended for the entirety of the week because I insisted on calling it At School Suspension... lol my poor mother.
 
I have washed my kids mouths with soap. Someone told me i could get in trouble for that. So I resorted to jalepenos. let me tell ya, I haven't heard a cuss word in a while.
 
I'll join you on that ARGH!! Mine just had ISS today too! And he won't be 14 until next week!! And get this ... he had to get me to sign a form acknowledging that he had ISS - he got the form THURSDAY at school (it was a long weekend here for them) - and gave it to me THIS MORNING to sign!!! So not only did he have ISS, he also got his butt grounded for two weeks for putting it off til today! Yup, I am mean mom today (had a blow out with Jenna this morning too, but that's a whole other story).
On the plus - he got all caught up on class work today, not being able to disrupt class or hang with his friends ...

Oh, and he got ISS for being late to class 7 times ... How can a kid be late when he takes a school bus to school and is not to leave school property at lunch time??? (they are allowed to leave, I just don't believe he has any reason to leave at lunch when he brings his lunch to school).

At my middle school, after-school detention used to be called after-school suspension, which of course got shortened by everyone to its initials, haha. Needless to say, that's why it got changed to ASD.

LMAO!!! My DH is pretty good about it in front of our 3 year old, but I wonder what will happen if I try putting both Grandpa's in time outs when they are over? ;)

OMGosh Sonja! I ask my 14 yo this ALL the time! The hubster drops them off at 7:30 and she has 12 tardies to her German class with is the FIRST class of the friggin day! Needless to say - I am a mean mom today since BOTH my teenagers are grounded for ONE month!

Oh and Laura, I actually was very happy that all they got busted for was dropping the f bomb!! It could have been MUCH worse I promise you that!!
 
Saying that word is not the best thing but it would depend on the context of why it was said. My daughter was suspended once for cursing but the context when she cursed was her standing up for her beliefs and our country and the military. So she did not get into trouble for the curse word. Hopefully your son learns his lesson. Unfortunately I think it goes with the territory for kids that age that they curse.

I woulda done much worse than ISS (if possible, I know there are rules to punishments and such). I have ZERO tolerance for kids who don't respect their elders. :glare: :cursing:

Yikes Samara! That is awful! Thank goodness my kids didn't say that to their teachers, they were talking to friends and said it in that context. If they had said it to their teachers, they would NOT be able to sit down right now. :cursing:
 
lmao...they probably think now that you are doing it at home all the time.

We never got ISS for such small things when I went to school. It was for pretty major things.
 
So my husband, who technically is a licensed social worker, works for the Dept of Education here as a "Behavioral Health Specialist". He works in our high school "Intensive Learning Program" here on Maui with the kids who have been removed from campus for behavioral "issues" and are actually segregated on a separate, centrally located campus on Maui. Basically it's never-ending ISS, but with lots of counseling and behavioral therapy (thanks to my overworked, extremely underpaid husband who actually gets very little thanks). He loves his job and really enjoys helping these kids, but I am shocked at the behaviors some of these kids resort to!!! Of course, a lot of them do have medical diagnoses that contribute to their behavioral issues, but it's still scary!!! So, I guess what I'm trying to say is dropping an f-bomb every now and then isn't so bad, relatively speaking....

Well I think I would have told the VP "glad you are doing this...he deserves it"... now I hadn't heard the term "F bomb" before...but I'm guessing you mean using the F word. right? or do you mean he stunk up the class?

If the word is the case...I bet they have a LOT of kids in ISS. I would have been nosey and asked how many kids get ISS for that on a weekly basis.

I hear ya on the teenagers...last year from July to December I had 3 teenaged ds in my house! Now I have a 20 yo and 2 teenagers...but I really don't notice a difference. lol
 
LOL Sharon Kay - yep the F bomb is the F word! Apparently, it isn't with the times to call it the F word anymore. LOL

Well, I asked the VP that and she said that there are currently seven kids in ISS for that. Our school district made a rule that dropping the F bomb is tantamount to sexual harassment. Um....ok. But, I can guarantee you - when my kids say it - there isn't anything sexual in the reference. LOL They are saying it more to indicate their displeasure in whatever they are talking about, in the case of yesterday, it was my son's displeasure in having to write a five page report. He hates to write, but will talk up a storm if allowed to type! LOL

Oh, and I PROMISE you this - they have not heard it from the hubster nor me! I don't even like saying the shiznit word! LOL

To me, there is a big difference between saying the f-word in the hallways to your pals and saying it to your teacher in reference to school work. Saying it to a teacher is more obstinant. Its basically *daring* your teacher to punish you, ya know?
I don't know. Either way, if my kids ever said that word there would be HELL to pay. But to say it to a teacher's face because you don't like the work she gave you? ISS would be the LEAST of my kids' worries.
 
I agree Jenny! My son didn't say it to his teacher thank goodness! He said it after the dismissal bell rang on his way out, she just happened to hear him and sent him to the office. I'm not making excuses for him, because he was TOAST when he got home.

I'm just glad he didn't say it to the teacher! He would have REALLY been toast then!
