technique tutorial

I am making the wedding programs for my friend's daughter's wedding and I thought that an edging of color around them would add depth to them, but I have not done this before. Can someone point me towards a tutorial and some examples so that I can learn what needs to be done and can also show my friend what it will look like as she can not visualize it.

Thanks!

Do you want to add the color to the actual, finished invitation or do you want to do it in your editting program?

For example, if you want to add a color after the invitation is printed, you could buy an ink pad in the color of your choice, and then glide the edges along the pad to give them a pop of color. Or you could run the edges around a glue pad, sprinkle the edges with embossing powder and then melt the powder (with a heat gun)... that would give it color and dimension (but is messy and pricey if you don't already have the tools for it).

Or if you want to add color to it before you print it, try adding a stroke to the layer you want colored. I use PSE, so here are my steps:
1) click the layer you want the edge colored
2) Edit --> Stroke (Outline) Selection
3) Choose your Stroke Width & Color, as well as where you want the stroke to be (outside, inside or centered on the edge).

Hope this helps!

I would love to do it in my program so that the colors match exactly, however I have designed the program to be a long rectangle 1/2 of a sheet of paper so I can get two to a page, then I am cutting it out with my gazelle but with a scalloped edge on top. I don't know how to use brushes in PSE5 so I think I need to do it by hand. I was thinking that I could use a cotton ball or sponge and press it to the ink and then to the card. Will this way work also?

I would think that would work! I would try out a few ways (the cotton ball & sponge) on a scrap peice first to make sure you can get the ink into every nook & cranny of the scalloping. Let us know how it turns out!
