Talk to me about online backup/storage

my computer is brimming with photos and scrapkits. i usually burn to disc when it starts to get full, but i have been wondering about online back up. PSE has been running incredibly s-l-o-w lately and its really hard to scrap like that! so its time to clean off but i don't want to have to put a disc in to upload a pic or kit. so how does online storage/backup work? do you like it? which one do you use? there are so many out there!

We use Mozy... I haven't had to recall anything, but so far *knock on wood* it's great. The only problem I have is that I have a personal server that hold all our files and we have to copy to an EHD in order for Mozy to pick that up... but I'm a unique case.

Otherwise, do note that it will take a long time for your first upload... I think it took us like 2 weeks, but we had internet trouble during that time and we had to restart. Now, it backs up during the night and I don't notice it.
 
Corey, you wouldn't use Mozy as a storage site. You have to put it someplace that Mozy can read it, and then it gets stored there as more like a mirror. If it's on the drive you're backing up, then it's on Mozy. If you delete it off teh drive, it's deleted off Mozy at your next back up.

That's how I understand the system to work. If you only have stuff on your HD and you need more space, then you need to buy an EHD.
 
oops... I'm sorry, Corey... I miss understood what you were asking. Does your internet provider have this service? I think ours has, but I've never looked into it.
 
ah okay. thanks for clearing that up, Col. i wasn't exactly sure if it was for 'storage' or not. i have been wanting an EHD for awhile. more important things keep coming up, lol. i guess i'll just go get me some discs and burn some pictures off. that'll clean off a bunch of space.

we have Comcast. i don't know if they off it or not.
 
I use Memopal. I've searched a long before to choose but so far i'm lovin it. It is a little more expensive than other out there, BUT. It is different. If you delete the file, it wont be deleted from Memopal server, you can browse your files from any computer or even iPhone, withouth the need to install anything. You can even decide to upload random files and delete them from the pc. It even backup ehd. And what it is totally nice, is thAt they backup ur files into 4 different server they have around the world, because something could happen even to' their pcs.. :) check it out!!
 
If you get an EHD, then you can get Mozy too. Mozy will back up the EHD, and you can clear off your hard drive.
 
that's what i was wanting; a way to keep my HD clean so it runs faster but still have easy access to my scrap kits and photos. an EHD is definitely in my future!
