Summer Vacations - Where are you off to this year?

I'm always curious as to where people go on their vacations. So where are you and your family off to this year? Or are you staying home and just enjoying some time together?

My family (as I posted last week) is going to Seattle for 3 days in late June and then we're doing a round trip Alaskan cruise for 7 days. When we get off the ship we are going to drive to Mt. Rainer and then back to the airport the next day to fly home. I love traveling to places with cooler and less humid climates during the summer! Florida is just too darn hot!

Inquiring minds want to know - what are your summer vacation plans?

No travel plans for us. We'll probably spend a few weekends at my Mom's house a few hours away and we might do a weekend with friends in Houston. Other than that we'll be doing the staycation thing. I like being home so I'm okay with that, I love not having a big schedule to follow. My youngest is going to Montana for a week but she's the only taking a real trip.

Juli your Alaskan cruise will be awesome.

We leave on our big cross-country trip a month from tomorrow :w00t: We're driving from Maine out to Colorado and from there to the Grand Canyon then up to the Arches in Utah and then SLC. From there on to Wyoming and Coulter Bay to the Grand Tetons then to Yellowstone. We're hitting the Plains Indian Museum on our way back to Maine as well as Devils Tower and Mt. Rushmore. We'll be gone a month and I'm so looking forward to a month off from work (almost as much as I'm looking forward to showing Cheyanne so much of our great country ;)) We'll be home for just 4 weeks before school starts again and will be doing a couple day/weekend trips to other parts of our state and then summer will be just about over and 8th grade begins.

Marie - That sounds amazing! I think I'd kill my kids if we were in the car together over 4 weeks - but I'd still love to try an adventure like that. I can't wait to hear all about your trip when you come back. We've considered visiting many of the places you mentioned with our girls (now 11 and 14). So hearing how your daughter likes it would be a huge bonus. It's so hard when you think about the fact that my oldest (going into 9th grade) only has 3 more summers before she's off to college (fingers crossed). That's not enough time to do all the things I wanted to do with her before she leaves the nest. I think your vacation sounds pretty exciting!

Well we are driving in a mini motor home so I can send her to the back if she gets on my nerves :D I did the same with my parents at the ages of 9, 11, and 14 and I still have great memories from those trips (although I was a bit of a pain on the last one because I wanted to be home with my friends) but to be fair to me, we were gone 8 weeks each time and not 4! LOL

oohh... an Alaskan Cruise... hubby wants to do a cruise and I would agree if it was to Alaska! :) Hubby also wants to do a cross country trip in something like an RV... I'm not so sure about it... :D Hubby loves to travel and can not stay home... I on the other hand am a homebody... Jake just wants to stay in a hotel... haha

We are heading to Seattle, too, in August... I think we are going to be there for 6 days. My BIL lives... so probably spend a few days around with him, but he likes to do things that aren't really intended for a 6 year old. And have plans to meet Heather Roselli!! :w00t: And hopefully if anyone else in digi land that lives out there has some time... that would be way cool!!

I'm going to be going to Chicago with my sister for a couple of days in August. We'll be going to a StarGate convention. I haven't been to a sci-fi con in a few years so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also going to be meeting up with some online friends who live in Australia and New Zealand while there.

And, although it's not quite summer anymore, but we're hoping to take another trip down to my visit my cousin and his partner in Sarasota sometime in October.

We were supposed to vacation on the lake over FOJ week, but it fell through.

I am going up to Detroit in a couple weekends to see NKOTB + 98 Degrees + Boyz II Men with my sister. That will be AWESOME.

Besides that, I want to take Miss Monkey on a long weekend to Chicagoland, but we'll see if I can come up with the $$$ for that before the summer's over. :p

we are headed to missouri for a week - we do a family trip there every other summer with a pretty big group (about 30 of us) - it's always really fun :) we stay here: http://www.bigcedar.com/default.aspx

then my girls have 5 weeks of summer day camp ... t

then we are hopefully headed to france for 3 weeks. my husband grew up there and i lived there for three years, but we've never taken the girls with us to visit (!) .. i think i'm finally ready to make the trip this year :)

we will probably do some weekend trips too - chicago is a definitely and probably maine.

we don't have anything big planned cuase DH and I don't have alot of time built up for vacation, so just the 2 of us are going from 5 days across WA to hike/sightsee...Forks, Seattle (I want o see th eglass museum that Misty went and saw) probably Leavenworth, Couley Damn, there is a Hot Springs I want to visit and maybe even a visit to Portland OR (where my inlaws are) without the kids for a day :) probabaly take the kids here and there on some weekend trips like to the Zoo, Space Needle, Science Museum etc.....but they are spending the summer (during the day) with my GF who has 2 boys the same age as my youngest so I have a feeling they will get LOTS of exercise and play time this year :)

sounds like seattle seems to be the place to be this summer! That is where we are headed too at the very end of august. We'll be driving to seattle and then taking the ferry to vancouver island and then back home prob driving through BC <3

We stayed at Big Cedar Lodge a few years ago - that place is just gorgeous!! Do you rent one of the cabins?

we're heading to stay with Tara and the Swinford gang for a week in 12 days (not that I'm counting AT ALL).

Other than that, we're planning a trip to St. Louis in July. it's hard for us to take summer vacations because Darik works construction, SO, if we do go, it's just me and the girls :)

Oh - and no big plans for us this summer. We are hoping to buy a house in July/August so keeping close to home to save $$. We will probably make a trip or 2 up to Minnesota and Wisconsin to spend time with family. But nothing big.

Kids and I are doing a week in Kansas City and a week in FL. Then a couple of weekend trips and day trips around our local area.

Are you guys going to Anchorage? I can recommend some things to do & places to eat. I miss AK so much.

We're doing a little trip to Traverse City, Mi & staying at Great Wolf Lodge in August.

Vancouver Island is one of my favorite places! It's so beautiful as is Vancouver itself. If you have time to stop in Stanley Park in Vancouver it's a must see!

Vanessa - We are not going to Anchorage. Jason and I went two years ago and it was such a nice city! I'd go back - but we couldn't swing the four of us flying home from Anchorage. We used Southwest points to get 3 out of the 4 of us to Seattle roundtrip.

We love Vancouver Island! We are going the be visiting my parents in Seattle in June, then going up to Whistler, BC for a week.

I would love to meet up with everyone if the time frame works out for us.

We leave Friday. Heading to Kansas City for a Royals game, then to Branson for a week. We go back to Branson for a week in July.

We're going to Bali for a week in July; it's my favorite! We go every summer since it's only about 4 hours away, and I can't wait to get back.

We had planned to go back to KK, the city where we lived in Malaysia, but we have to go to a wedding in August and didn't have enough money to do both. {sob}

Joel's parents are coming, so we'll do some sight-seeing around Manila as well.

This year we are each planning a day or weekend trip. Luke wants to go to a water park. I'm going to Chicago... I'm not 100% sure of all we will do but I know I want to do Medieval Times and Sprinkles Cuocakes. Lol. Joel thinks he wants to go to Dayton, Ohio to visit Wright- Patterson AFB.

We decided to do this because our house will be on the market and its just easier. I think. Lol

Everyone's summers sound like fun! We go away with my family for a week every summer (13 of us this year), so we're renting a house in the Poconos (in Pennsylvania). That will be our main vacation. We'll also be in NY and CT for at least 4 weekends to see my family, meet my new nephew (due in early June), celebrate a birthday, and attend a wedding shower for my brother's fiance.

We went to Bali on our honeymoon and I SO want to go back! It's such a beautiful place and the people are so kind.

I am coming to the end of mine. Flew fro UK to Denver on 3rd May.

We did Denver, across the peak to peak pass to Estes Park .. then through to Laramie and Cheyenne in Wyoming .. into Nebraska to Chimney Rock and Scotts Bluff ... to Custer national Park, Iron mountain road, mount rushmmore anf Crazy Horse monument ... Devils tower, yellowstone for 2 days, through idaho to craters of the Moon, then across Nevada to my Stepdaughters in California, Going home to the UK on Friday :(

We are hoping to hit Florida from 7.3-7.8. My dh really sux at finalizing plans so we kinda just wait till he says book it today!
Then just day trips to the local beaches and lakes.. Our last summer w/our Charlie girl was magical in York, MA so we want to return. We are thinking of hitting it sometime in August, we really loved the drive and sight seeing.

Well we already came from vacation in Bangkok (it was awesome!!!) and it was both our first times. And coming from a place like Manila, we were hilarious tourists because we kept raving about the public transport (so organized!) and weird things like food we'd find in convenience stores, LOL. We'd love to go back and maybe do a more "traditional" trip with tours, etc. This time we completely vegged out :)

We're planning another trip with my family come December to Palawan, a province south of Manila known for its awesome beaches and food. :)

I'd love to go to Seattle or Portland as I have good friends in both areas that I am dying to see.

We don't really travel in the summer. We usually stick close to home and do lots of fun stuff and explore our area more indepth but we don't leave for the summer much these days. Our vacation time is in November. :) Every other year we meet up with my SIL and her family somewhere between here (KS) and their place (PA) and vacation together over Thanksgiving. This year we are looking at going to Atlanta or a return trip to Louisville since we enjoyed it there so much when we went 4 years ago.

No big plans this summer....we are getting 23 new windows for our house instead.....BUMMER!! And trying to figure out why Jason keeps getting sick. :(

We are talking about going back up to Wisconsin Dells sometime in July for a long weekend but other than that, we'll just hang out here....go swimming, go to the beach, zoo, maybe make a few trips downtown, etc....

We are going to Florida next summer with my parents again. It's already in the works. My dad said he would rent the condo/beach house if we wanted to go (only b/c he feels guilty they are going to Hawaii in October with my brother and his wife ....and paying for it!!!!) Lucky dogs!!! My parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary and my brother is celebrating their 25th.......I wish we could enjoy a trip like that with my parents but we still have little ones at home!!!!!

We stayed at Big Cedar Lodge a few years ago - that place is just gorgeous!! Do you rent one of the cabins?

no - my DH's uncle has a time share there - so we all stay in rooms/suites in the hotel part. they come with kitchens though, which is nice w/ so many people!

i'd love to stay in a cabin though, i bet they are awesome!

Greetings from Alamosa, CO. We're seeing the Gator Farm today and then we're homeward bound after Carlsbad Caverns, Tucson, Sedona, Grand Canyon, and Monument Valley.

We mostly stick close to home in summer & do our vacations in fall/winter, going to Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg & down to Florida between Oct-Dec

We are planning to go to Kings Dominion one day and to take the train up to DC for a day visiting various museums. We might also visit one of the local caverns on a rainy day. We're talking about maybe doing a last minute visit to Rehobath for 3-4 days but that depends on what is available & how much it costs

I'd love to go to my home town for a few days but my brother's marriage is falling apart again and while my dad will be in town for a couple baseball tournaments he organizes, my mom will probably stay in Florida so 'seeing the family' is kind of tricky & I'd mostly be driving 6 hours to eat pizza and listen to people argue.

It is good pizza, but I don't know if it is *that* good. :)

We are heading to Virginia Beach in like 19 days!!! Eeeeeee!! We go every year, but finally this year we have no "babies"!!! I'm so excited to not have to worry about kids missing naps and being cranky!!! :D
