Summer Reads

I'm looking for a few books for my summer reading list. Specifically, plot-driven page turners that don't fall into the formulaic. I like most genres: mystery, suspense, fantasy, general fiction, historical fiction. Romance and modern day chick lit not so much.

Recommendations?

For historical fiction try Ken Follett's Century Trilogy - the books are long but excellent. If you've never read Pillars of the Earth by him I highly suggest that one too.

For "easier" reading I love David Baldacci books (he has several series) and Nelson Demille.

I loved Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I flew through it in about 4 days. Its science fiction/suspense, definitely a page-turner.

The best book I've read all year was Tuf Voyaging by George RR Martin. It's science fiction, with some comedy thrown in.

I've just finished reading the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. It's a historical fiction book. It's pretty popular so you may have already read it, but in case you hadn't I thought I'd mention it.

Over the past few weeks I have read:

Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Don't You Cry by Mary Kubica
Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica

All were thriller/suspense.

I read this a while back and it was good.
See Me by Nicolas Sparks (not your typical NS book...some suspense)

I'm rereading Emily of New Moon and the 2 novels which follow it. This is a classic, but lesser known work from Lucy Maud Motgomery (Author of Anne of Green Gables). I haven't read this in years, but it has been my favorite novel since I was in middle school. It is a little darker than Anne of Green Gables and explores deeper topics. It's still charming and funny, but there is more meat to it.
