Suggestions for a Good Cooking Magazine

I really would like a good food magazine to subscribe to. I'm not a gourmet cook - I assemble more than cook. My lifestyle doesn't jive with huge time consuming recipes in the kitchen. And recipes with more than 8 ingredients scare me. I've had cooking light before, but the recipes were just so large that I never made anything. I have picked up Rachel Ray's Magazine and I just feel "eh" about it.

But I love to bake!

Any suggestions?

I like Simple & Delicious from Taste of Home. I also like Food Network's newish magazine, Cooking Light, Bon Appetit, Gourmet...um, anything with recipes. I collect/read cookbooks/cooking magazines for fun.

Martha Stewart's Real Simple usually has a bunch of easy recipes in it. I've pulled out several to give a try.

Cooks Illustrated and Cooks Country! Both are great magazines. They make excellent food. They test recipies dozens of times to get the best & most streamlined approach & explain why they ended up with the recipe they did. That alone has really helped me learn to cook better. They have a fun reader question & suggestions column and they do reviews of different food products and cooking implements. They are not sponsored by anyone so you get real honest reviews

Best part of all - no ads!

I like Simple & Delicious from Taste of Home.

I have to ditto Leila on this magazine!! I've been getting it since 2002 and 98% of my recipes come from this magazine!!! If you ever read any of my posts that I post to recipe and menu threads those recipes are all almost from Simple & Delicious!!! It's the perfect magazine for the busy normal average family!!!

I like Simple & Delicious too..I used to get both it and Taste of Home, but I've found I'm more likely to pull from S&D so I let my ToH suscription expire.

Have you checked out Pioneer Woman's new site?? It's GREAT..I've already used about 10 recipes from there and only 1 wasn't as good as I'd hoped...

Tasty Kitchen

I love Simple and Delicious because they have pics of all the recipes! I'm a visual person so I need to see it to know if I'm gonna like it. LOL I also always grab those Taste of Home "books" (like really thick magazines) at the checkstands. They are around $10 each but I love their themes like Crockpot Recipes, Best of Chicken, etc.

I also love Kraft's Food & Family magazine, I have all the issues going back all the way to 2003 I think and so many of our family favorites have come from them! The recipes are usually pretty simple, with a minimal number of ingredients and best of all it's free :)

I've also got a few issues of Cooking Light but haven't had a chance to try any recipes yet, and I have also tried quite a few of Pioneer Woman's recipes and loved them. The Simple & Delicious magazine looks good so I just requested my free issue to try it out :)

best of all it's free :)
not anymore. :( I got a notice in the mail this week w/the latest magazine, that it was my last free issue & that you have to have a paid subscription now. It was only $6.99 a year w/ a free cookbook. So, I signed up. lol

I love Real Simple. This month's issue is really good. They recipes they provide are always basic, elegant, and healthy.

I have the Kraft mag & have been getting it FOREVER. I have the priemier issue somewhere. :)

I'll check out the Simple & Delicious.

Thanks ladies!! I'll have to look at Martha's, too. But she scares me.

really?? I just got the Fall '09 issue not too long ago & it didn't have any notice like that in it, well $6.99/yr is still a steal so I'll be signing up if I do get a notice!

Now see, I hate Simple and Delicious since the change from Quick Cooking. I used it all the time when it was Quick Cooking, but once they switched the format and the name, I found I wasn't using any recipes from it.

I get my recipes on the internet, mostly Recipezaar (cuz they have photos).

I dont know about magazines but I love the recipes at my local grocery store. They make them up in the store and let you sample them and you can take the recipe cards free. They sell binders to keep them in as well and they are simple recipes. Here is a linnk to them online. I think you might be able to buy them also. Not sure if the chain extends to where you live but it is at Publix Grocery Stores. Here is alink to the recipes: http://www.publix.com/aprons/meals/SimpleMeals.do

ETA you can actually print any of the past recipes from that site and it gives you a shopping list for each meal which I think is really cool :)
