Strep throat

Avery just had it 3 weeks ago and today I spent all morning/afternoon in the ER and waiting on meds at the pharmacy. He had to get a shot in his butt this time and it took me and 2 nurses to hold him down. Then he proceeded to scream and wail for another 30 minutes afterwards. Then I had to wait 2 HOURS for his script at the pharmacy.

then I had to rush home b/c my mother had Ella and was busting a gut to get out of here b/c she has some reunion to go to tonight..which stressed me out even more. Oh and she made sure to tell me that if I'd disinfect my house better Avery wouldn't be sick again. I love my mom...but sometimes :cursing::cursing::cursing:

And while I was in walmart killing time I ran into a lady from my church who asked about Brian and I literally burst out crying right there..I was so embarrassed..but it's like the dam that was holding all that in just burst right there in front of the frozen dinners. :unsure:
 
{{Hugs}} It's a lot to deal with by yourself, and it sounds like everyone you dealt with today was just making it worse--I think I would have burst into tears, too. Ben may be in the same boat. 3 weeks ago he had ear and eye infections. 4 days after getting off the antibiotics, he was back on for strep and a sinus infection. It's 2 weeks later, and today he started complaining about throat and ear pain.
 
I HATE STREP!!! We had so much of strep last year at our house - so much that Ian ended up with Rheumatic Fever, a four day hospital stay and a lifetime of medication. And, who gets Rheumatic Fever anymore? We do!

We ended up having our ducts and vents professionally cleaned, our carpets professionally cleaned, we cloroxed EVERY SINGLE toy in the whole house (and I mean every lego, every matchbox car, EVERY toy . . . the skin was falling off my hands from the clorox wipes), and we had a cleaning lady come in and scour everything down because I was weeks away from having a baby and couldn't do all that heavy cleaning myself. It was horrible.

There's no way I would even attempt all of that without my husband around, Nikki. You just keep doing the best you can. BIG HUGS!! I know how those days are when some poor unsuspecting soul asks how you're doing and the dam breaks. Hopefully, you'll get some good sleep tonight, and tomorrow will be a new and better day.
 
Dang Nikki, that is a lot to hold up alone. It's okay if the damn burst once in a while. I think crying can be great therapy; although I know you would rather not do it in the frozen foods aisle. Just keep hanging in there and it will all work out. Hope you and Avery are feeling better soon.
 
Oh Nikki. So sorry. I am sure that Avery's immune system is down due to being on antibiotics for strep. It takes a while for the "good" bacteria to build back up in your system to help fight off infections again. The best advise I can give is start him on probiotics. You can give it to him while he is on antibiotics. Landon is on them most of the year (when I remember to give them to him). They are like a vitamin/supplement. I personally get mine at a health food store but I am sure that a pharmacy would have them. These are the ones I get and Landon loves them. Kal Dino Probiotics

I hate strep - I had that late March and for 2 weeks I wasn't able to work at all. I pray that everything gets ok soon.
 
Awww Hugs!!! Its hard especially when you have to deal with adults who "want to help" but then "have to go"!

One thing...with strep...sometimes someone is a carrier. Have you had Ella or yourself tested. We had that happen with our family (kept passing it around, multiple antibiotics etc, cleaned, disinfected, etc, still got it!). Boys were a carrier but had no sickness symptoms at all. Initial rapid test came back negative too, it wasn't until the culture came back and we were ALL on antibiotics that it went away.

Also what about the school? Kids pass stuff around in close quarters. Maybe bring in a tub of antibiotic wipes and help wipe everything down as a precaution. Strep is so annoying and tiresome!
 
Thanks everyone...the doc said that more than likely he'd just never gotten over it to start with..he's allergic to penicillan so he can't take that...they tried omnicef the first go round and the ER doc said it probably just didn't kick it all. He's on zithromax this time and we go back in a few days to reassess with his pediatrician. A little girl in his class that had it the same time he did a few weeks ago is sick with it again too. I think it's more likely they're passing it around at school..little germ carriers that they are lol
