Stories in Hand?

I'm printing up the last of today's prompts. Due to my printer's print area I can't cut 1.5" off one side, I have to cut 1" off one side and .5" off the other. Not thrilled with that. The odds of my making 2 cuts properly are already low, add a third and my failure potential increases considerably. (I didn't even try the scissors, I have an exacto knife and my quilt ruller and cutting pad and still things get all slanty!)

I'm thinking about making one of these for my mom. I think she'd really enjoy doing it. But I don't think my irritation with my cutting skills is up to cutting up 40 additional pieces of paper

Did anyone figure out how to modify the Day 2 prompts for 8x8 pages. My mom wants her "binder" to be 8x8 and with the prompts all 2 on a page I am having difficulties.

Amber, what about mounting it on another piece of cardstock or PP? Make it 8" wide, and then there will just be the extra space on top and bottom.

Stacey, no one cares if your edges aren't straight. Neither will your mom :)

Just got mine all cut out...whew! What a task! :) I also laminated my divider pages so they are a bit more sturdy. I am liking it more and more...

Dear People That Understand This More Than Me,
okay, I'm a little bonkers on this. I have a BoBunny 6x6 Naked binder and it has 6 chipboard 'pages' in it. Can I use those for my divider pages or should I use cardstock? Also, on the cardstock, I have only 10 sheets of 12x12" heavyweight cardstock. I can't figure out how many sheets I will actually need. Do I need to go out and actually buy a ream of paper?? This stuff is 60cents a sheet! I was thinking I could cut the 12x12 into a 6x12 so I could run it through my printer... but in reading some stuff, I'm seeing some are suppose to be 7"?? :( I wish I could just concept the whole thing in my head so I could figure how what I need. Help!!

Julie, I'll try and help as best I can :)

First, you can definitely use the chipboard pages as dividers if you want.

Second, you're going to need more than 10 pages of 12x12. Especially if you need some of those to print the divider pages. Try and download the prompts and see how much editing you can do to them. If you can get the margins set so that you can print it out as 6" wide instead of 7" then you're set. The page protectors that fit the album are 6x6, but the album itself is bigger than that, which is why the pages are bigger.

If you prefer to use what Jessica gives us as is, then just take a deep breathe. You can buy packs of plain white cardstock at Michael's or Joann's or Hobby Lobby, and they come in 8.5x11. So you buy one of those and you should be set. It's like $5 or less, and you can use a coupon on it if it isn't on sale.

for the title pages the pdf's that she has supplied so far... couldn't you just digitally scrap something that you like? use the same quotes etc...

I am doing 6x6, so you can either print on your home printer and/or just print at your local printer... might be my plan, not sure yet, haven't opened up all the pdf files yet!

though I am buying new printer cartridges today at lunch!

sounds like fun! I love her stuff (tutorials and ideas)....

Ok, I've done enough cutting for one day. Half the Roots pages are a quarter inch shorter than the rest, which drives me nuts because how did I not catch that? but, I just whacked the other half down to size & they will just be shorter than the rest. :) I've already reprinted 2 of the Family page because my ruler skewed sideways and cut into the words. But I have the Roots and Family pages cut & punched. I'll do the Self ones tomorrow or possibly try to coerce DH into cutting them this evening.

I still may do this for my mom but not soon. I'm going to need a week or so get over the frustration. And I'll need to get another binder which seems to be difficult at them moment.

I don't have this problem with fabric. I can cut fabric no problem. But paper causes me no end of grief.

I got all my stuff printed and I'm going to *try* to get it all cut and put together tonight before I leave on my trip. I have a feeling I'm going to be VERY behind by the time I get back from Florida saturday night...

Now that I know we're just creating a handbook and the actual stories will go elsewhere, I'm feeling a little less paralyzed by intimidation. It's not the project itself, it's the size-changing I was going to have to do. But I've scrapped the idea of using the vertical binder I already have--too much I'd need to redo. Instead I'm going with 4x4.

I have a naked 4x6 photo album that fits 60 pages (fingers crossed that's enough!) and I used my paper trimmer to cut the page protectors down a little and make room for the divider tabs. Small print doesn't bother me, so I'll just scale everything down to 66% when I print. That will have to wait for tonight since I need to go buy some cardstock first. Now that I've gotten my head around what I need to do, I'm excited!

Can someone help me with the checklist? I would really like to modify this a bit but I don't know how to do that in PSE since it is saved as a PDF. Is it even possible with out the PSD file?

Me either, Stacey! I just keep telling myself it's fabric and that I'm using a "pattern." That usually gets me over my paralysis. And I think of the XActo knife as a "rotary cutter." It's all in the mind games

try opening the pdf from PSE.

and if you're already doing that . . . what version of PSE are you using?

ok - serious question ..... If I am supposed to be recording these stories for my kids .... should I include an "Ex-Spouse" tab (but not name it that of course)?

And I think of the XActo knife as a "rotary cutter."

I thought they made specific paper cutting blades for the rotary cutter but I couldn't find them at the LSS or Wal Mart. I might feel better with my rotatry rolling along. :)

Meems - I think part of my problem is that my cardstock is a tad uneven itself, the corners don't square up with the mat most of the time so I'm having to jiggle things with almost every cut and added to having to make that additional cut because my printer is off is frustrating me today

Yes, I personally think you should.

Rach, I think that later in the week we will actually be using the binder to record stories in. That way they are all in one place to pull from.

I think the ex "spouse" should be included... especially if you had kids w/ him!
think of all of the stories that there are there!

May not be the funnest to record but I think they should be written down!

Don't feel bad, Dia. I haven't printed anything out yet & won't be making a cutesy-wutesy hybrid-y album, either.

I have principles abt digital, y'know.

I finally got my binder done this afternoon. The outside looks good, the dividers look good (after printing each page twice and adjusting because I have an 8 by 8 album) but the checklists and other pages are JACKED UP. I cannot cut straight to save my life and somehow I punched the holes in the wrong spots so most pages have three or four holes. Duh. Oh well, it's workable at least and we're not getting graded so I'm good. lol

On a more positive note, I was reminded over and over again today why I switched to digital scrapping. :lol

Ok! Just back from Michaels! Cardstock 50 sheet packs were on sale for 1.99, so I got 2. Plus got 2 Martha Stewart pens because uh... well, there was no good reason for that except Jessica Sprague said she liked them. LOL

So, if I use the chipboard for the dividers, any suggestions on putting tabs on that? Or will the chipboard just make it too full?? Maybe I should try the cardstock instead and convert to chip later if it works out.
