Spraytan?

So, I have two christmas parties this weekend, and I was thinking I feel like getting a spraytan. I've got red hair, so I never tan, and I thought it might be fun for a change.

I would need to do it on Thursday, and when I phoned the lady to ask if I could do it at lunchtime and go back to work, she said it would be fine, but I might be a bit smelly.

So for any of you who have done this before, how smelly is "a bit smelly"? And how long does it take? And have you ever gotten that ugly orange colour from spraytans?

I too would like to get a spraytan but am too afraid of doing it. lol. I hope someone can give some input because I'd like to know too.

My family used to own a tanning salon, so I think I'm your girl :)

The smelliness will probably depend on the brand, but we used two different brands and niether smelled bad all at to me. I used to get them done all the time and I never smelled... well at least I hope I didn't lol! Anywho, the worst part to me is the stickiness. You will be sticky until it completely dries, which again will depend on the brand, but ours only took about an hour to dry.

The process of getting sprayed only takes about 15 minutes. I have never gotten an orangey color. We used California Tan and Designer Skin brands. These are both great brands and always gave me great color. I have dark hair and tan fairly well, but I got the spray tans when I was really pale lol, and they were never orange :) HTH!

I should add that we had the type of spray that was airbrushed on by an employee, not a booth. I have never done a booth one.

I've done the booth one a couple of times before we went on vacations because I'm super-pale and burn instead of tan. :p I never thought it smelled bad after I had it done. Yes, it does have a scent but it's kind of the same as the scent from the bottled self-tanners. I went shopping and stuff after doing mine and it didn't bother me at all. Mine both turned out really well and wasn't orangey either. :)

Thanks guys! I'm pretty close to chicken out to be honest;) I need to decide by tomorrow morning. Someone I spoke to said they got really orange and dark before they had a shower (and then it looked nice), and I think I would never live it down if I turned up at work looking like an extra from Charlie and the chocolate factory.. I might call and see if they have any appointments in the afternoon and leave work an hour early instead.. I'm also worried that I'll get really streaky on my arms from sitting at the computer at work all day..

I don't think you will get streaky. I have never had that happen :) I was scared before I got one the first time, so I understand about you being nervous. I bet it will turn out great though!

I did it once and it was HORRIBLE!! I felt like a freakin oompa loompa afterwards and it was not a consistent color and then it turned splotchy. They had me put some kind of goopy lotion on my palms and bottom of my feet and it messed it up bad, I had lines around my hand and feet that looked bad. The smell was not horrible, but lasted a couple of days. As it faded it looked like I had some major kind of oompa loompa disease cause it was patchy and such. I will never do spray tanning again! (mine was the mystic tan in a paint booth).

Oh no! :( I have never done Mystic Tan because I have only heard bad things about it! That lotion is dangerous lol. We helped people put it on their palms and feet so that they wouldn't get it elsewhere because wherever you put it, the spray won't stick!

I still haven't decided.. I have no idea what make it is, but it's not a booth, it's a person spraying. It is at a spa, not at a tanning salon. I'm a bit worried that it will get really blotchy, one of the dresses I am wearing at the weekend has a low back, so that will look bad. I'm going to call in a bit, and see if they have an appointment in the afternoon, otherwise I might cancel. I really wanted to do it though - it would be a fun surprise for SO;)
