My computer is giving me errors that my external hard drive has malfunctioned so I tried it in my dh laptop and it still won't work. Any sugestions or recovery options???? I am so sick. All my pictures, scrap pages, materials, everything is on there. What can I do?
 
You can try removing the actual HDD from the EHD Case and putting it into another case to see if maybe it was the case power supply causing the actual problem. I've heard of people removing the HDD and putting it into the freezer and that helps. Don't know why exactly and always found that a little odd. But there's a reason for it.
 
Before you do anything else try a new USB cable, if that doesn't fix it then I'd take it to someone to try and salvage what is on there.
 
No advice- been there and it sucks. :( Hope you're able to recover (when I did, my files were such a mess I couldn't really do much with them anyway.) :(
 
No ideas here, but good luck! I've been there and done that too and it is heartbreaking.

a good friend of mine lost everything on her EHD. It would have cost two thousand dollars to recover the contents of the HD and they just couldn't do it. So she had to use her posted web copies to re-create all of her most precious LOs.


I so hope you can figure something out!
 
I'm sorry Tara :( I've been there. My external died and I took it into Best Buy's Geek Squad. They couldn't fix it so they quoted me about $1500 to have it sent to a "clean room" and rebuilt. Since it had all my pictures on it I had to do it. My husband lost all his childhood photos in a fire so he was insistant that our kids had their pics. It made us sick financially, but I know those pictures and memories are priceless. So, don't give up hope, perhaps you'll be able to get the files off!

Then once you do that, I'd recommend Mozy or a good backup. ((hugs))
 
I read somewhere this morning that Mozy is running a good deal right now too. Hmm...lemme go find it and post for everyone....
 
ok, so I think it was a miracle...but it is now working. I don't know why it stopped working but I tried everything. many prayers later my dh came home and tried and it seems normal. one things for sure...i will have mozy running non-stop untill it's caught up!

Take it somewhere ELSE! I had 2 externals drive (duplicate drives) within a few days of each other...BB Geek Squad could not fix it...I took it to a individually owned computer store (been in business for 20 years) and they restored my data! Cost almost $700 but I got back 95% of my data!!

How much data do you have? It could possibly take months...I would advise backing up to DVDs in the interim!!!
