Our health insurance changed as of Jan 1...

I'm on the pill... the generic, mind you.

3 packs used to be $5 (edit: That's not EACH... that's combined total)

Now?

I only can get 1 pack at a time for $26!!!
:cursing::cursing:

RIDIC!!!! As DD says "I could pit snails!"

Pit them indeed.

Have you asked what they'd cost without the insurance? We get one of Andrew's scrips without the insurance involved because it's cheaper than our copay by about $10 a month.

Ugh, I totally feel your pain Annie. Except that our insurance HASN'T changed, and all my scripts are now more expensive. I pay $25/month but my script was written for the 3pack so they give it to me 3 at a time (for the $75).

I effing hate health insurance in this country.

Oh and they changed mine from the script to the generic (without me asking) and it's still $25/pack.

That's SO dumb!! Up here I'm not sure what it costs without extra insurance, but when I *was* taking the pill I had extra insurance and it was like maybe 10/3 months. Not generic, though...don't really remember what I was on, but I know it was brand name.

Our insurance copays changed this year. Thank goodness the prescriptions are only $10 (for generic).

But, our copays are now $50! I have spent $160 on my ds ear infection. Sure hope it goes away soon!

I once ordered a prescription over the phone and had it delivered (so it was non returnable/refundable. One month I paid $30 the next time it was delivered, it was over $200:cursing: Needless to say, I always go into the pharmacy now to pick them up.

Our medical insurance costs us the equivalent of an entire paycheck per month... we're in-network only (the only choice) so we have to drive over 30 minutes just to GET to a doctor and pharmacy in the network. THEN, we don't have the option of co-pays, it's ALL deductibles and to get ANY sort of decent coverage, we had to pick the highest deductible (I can't even remember what it is off the top of my head). Over half of the debt we're filing bankruptcy on is from ROUTINE medical bills! We literally sit and hmm and hah over whether or not we need to go to the doctor when we or the kids are sick! It's asinine!

AND DH WORKS FOR A HOSPITAL!! THIS IS COMING FROM THEM!!!! :cursing:

GAH! I'm so steamed about this!

LOL! I've had to pay $28/pack for years now (that's WITH insurance). I can't imagine getting them any cheaper. I recently switched to the patch, and now I get that in a 3 month supply for $80. YOWZA

But to me, this is as essential as say... electricity. LOL! So I just pay it.

That sucks Annie

Thankfully our didn't change and I could kiss the gods for that....taking 3 Zofrans a day can really add up  In one month I've taken around 90 pills at a cost of $5600 dollars...it's only cost me $90 buck

That's what pisses me off about health insurance here. Seriously, people should not have to worry about paying to going to the doctor. You should not have to choose your health or your groceries. Its ridiculous. I am thankful for my military insurance everytime I have to go to the doctor or take my son in.

Have you called Planned Parenthood? When I was young I got it there for next to nothing. They go based on income. I got an IUD put in, from what I hear it starts being cheaper than being on the pill after a year and a half.

OMG a HOSPITAL...they are usually very good about providing excellent heath insurance (my sister and SIL both work for different hospitals and as long as they go to thier hospital it's cover 100%)...that just freaking sucks Annie!!! That makes me so :cursing: for you!!!!

I was going to try PP but there are always protesters at the one near me and the last time I went toe-to-toe with a protester outside of a PP was in RI and I almost went to jail. :o LOL, plus, we so far haven't qualified for anything that's been income-based, so I wouldn't be too optimistic. I'll give them a call though, and Walmart too, it says online that I can get 1 month for $9 but then says it might be more in MN :glare:

I was considering an IUD but I can't get the mirena and I heard the other (paragard) sucks big time. I may have to suck it up though at this rate...

My insurance makes you jump through hoops before they will even cover birth control. If it is not medically necessary you are out of luck and apparently they don't keep records of the paperwork you complete because if you get permission for birth control and then you want to change the prescription you have to go back to the begining and re-prove that it is medically necessary.

I was responsible for a small forest vanishing last year due to repeatedly needing complete the same forms while my OB & I searched for something to control my endo. 4 different types of pill ($25 a month for all of them), including Yaz (and OMG! the fit the insurance had over that because you get 3 months at a time), then the patch, then the Nuva Ring ($50 a ring!) and finally an IUD, (just under $400, which the insurance finally agreed to pay for though they will not pay to have it removed in the next 2 years). In 18 months I spent over $1200 in co-pays and prescriptions.

Ugh, yeah, lucky for us there are seldom protesters outside of ours. Maybe go on a really cold day or when its raining. ;)

Anyone can us PP, the amount you are charged is just a sliding scale based on pay. I know when I went at 17 they used MY income, not my parents. So maybe they will use only your income. That should help.

At least you aren't in ND, we have a really stupid pharmacy law that doesn't allow Wal-Mart pharmacies.

Yeah, I have the Mirena, my doctor highly recommended that one, but not the other kind as much. More issues.

Annie, are you done having kids? If so make your DH get snipped no more prescriptions! I did it 2 years ago now I was paying $45/month before that because I could only take one type of bc and there was no generic for it

OMG what a rip off. I would look for a different pharmacy if I was you. Costco is the cheapest by far if you have one near you? Believe me, I was without insurance for 4 years and had to check pharmacy prices and Costco was the cheapest and you don't have to be a member to get prescriptions filled there. Hope this helps you out.

Holy cow Stacey! What a PITA!

Mari, that would totally rock if PP used my income (ie: Nothing :D), I'll definitely look into that (meh, I suppose I can TRY to keep my mouth shut too lol)

We're not completely certain about more kids... but even if we were, there's no way DH would get a V. No way at all.

We don't have a nearby Costco unfortunately... the nearest (well, the nearest one in a not-skeezy part of town) is about an hour away. :( I love them even sans pharmacy perks.

I didn't read through the whole thread, but you may want to check if it is on the $4 list at Walmart. Good Luck--and I agree, that totally sucks!
