SO Freaking MAD!

Brodo gettin her Swerb on
So, our company has the worst health insurance EVER. I always have problems getting my scripts filled. I have 2 scripts for my stomach condition because they won't fill the good one as directed because THEIR Dr's deemed it unnecessary. Really? Trying saying that when you wake up every morning puking when you don't take the meds :cursing: So I had my gastro write a second script to use as a backup for when they yank my chain with the first one.

So it's an $1100 deductible, but the company pays $800 for us. Which seems cool. Accept that when it comes to scripts, it's not a co-pay situation until AFTER the full $1100 has been met ($300 of which I'm responsible for out of pocket). You pay the full amount of the script first. So I check my account and I have $37 and change left of the $800. We get those credit cards to use, so I was like ok I'll just put $37 on the flex spending account card and pay the rest. No biggie right? Cuz I know I have to pay $300 anyway.

So I get my scripts today, and the lady at the pharmacy is like umm...do you want to look at your deductible? I'm like yea, I know it's expensive, it's fine.

And then it rings up as $640!!!!

The credit card wouldn't freaking work, and I had to put the whole freaking thing on my credit card. Yea, I get $300 or so back, but WTF?!?! They TRIPLED one of my scripts without even telling me!! I'm so effing MAD :cursing: :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing:

:cursing: I have this sort of stuff to look forward to in January when our deductible skyrockets.... *shakes fist angrily at the heavens*

That really sucks Col! If it would have been me they'd have to keep the script cause there is no way we could pay that much out of pocket at once up front! Hope they get you reimbursed quickly!

It was all stuff that I was out of, and it would start causing problems if I was without it for much longer (waited all weekend for them to fill the stuff in the first place).

This is seriously why something has to be done about healthcare, IMO. There needs to be some sort of regulation on these pharmaceuticals and such. I'm so sorry that meds you need cost so much. :(

What we do is call around to find the cheapest price on our prescriptions and go to our pharmacy and the pharmacist will beat the lowest price that we can find by about 10%. Im not sure if you have spoken to yours about this or if it would even effect the price of meds for you but thought I would mention it. I know it sucks. I had kidney problems for awhile and one of my meds cost 100 dollars for like 5 pills!! I could not afford to get it filled so I had to go without it.

WOW! That is awful! It's almost like you'd be better off getting a private policy than taking your company's insurance. Either that or get a new job! Sorry Col! That just doesn't seem worth giving you the benefit.

Oh man that sucks! I just went through a big fight with ours about my various meds. Seems everything I need to take is Tier 1 payment and they drag out approving it & in the meantime I pay full price or take inferior meds. What really pissed me off was they drug out one for 3 months and in the end the difference between their copay and the actual price was $3!!!

Have you looked into any independant prescription plans?

This only happens once a year, since my scripts are so expensive. I take 1 hit for $300 and then the rest of the plan year I pay co-pays. I'm going to go talk to our HR person and see what I need to do to get $$ taken out of my paycheck and put into the Flex Spending Account (tax free). I'm pretty sure I can do that, and it'll make this process less painful. Of course with my luck, sometime soon our company will change healthcare AGAIN and I'll have to start all over.

It's still cheaper overall than going with self insurance. It's just obnoxious and a huge PITA to deal with. I'm filling out the refund forms as we speak, so hopefully they'll process it quickly.

Yes, you should be able to have $$ deducted from your acct for the FSA, Col. I'm surprised your company doesn't do that by default.

Sucks that you & J. have the same coverage so you don't have better insurance to look forward to after October.

Yea he mentioned last night that he already told our HR person we were staying with individual coverage. Cuz the married insurance not only costs more, but the deductible is WAY higher too. We'd get totally screwed only because of me. So yea. Awesome.

It was worse last year when I had NO idea this was going to happen and had a huge freak out in the middle of work when I called the insurance and they told me I had to pay $1100 out of pocket. This time I was prepared, and yet STILL got completely screwed over.

Do you have to meet the deductible again in January? Kinda weird to have to meet one in December..don't most run Jan-Dec?

Nic takes an RX stomach med that costs me $100 copay/month..I can't complain though the med is 300 bucks regular..

No, our plan runs Sept 1 to Aug 30/31. So I'm set until then.

$100 copay sucks! Even the expensive ones are only a $50 co-pay max for me.

This is why we need to do something about the health care system in this country. Its ridiculous that people have to pay amounts like this or force themselves to suffer cause they cannot afford it. I think its very wrong that people have to choose their health/child's health or food or other necessities. It just ticks me off.

Anyway, I hope that you can find a way to get this med cheaper.
