Skylanders help/advice needed..

Can someone fill me in on how it works & what the gameplay is like? My boy (nearly 5) has started asking for Skylanders instead of Disney Infinity stuff for christmas but I was wondering if it's sort of the same or no? Do the older figures work on the new trap team set? What do I need to buy straight away so he's got enough things to keep him entertained for a while? A friend of mine said "we completed the first one in an hour so didn't bother again" surely thats someone obviously not playing it right or something? lol.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

We have all 4 versions, our son who is almost 7 is getting Trap Team for Christmas.

The older characters will work with Trap Team, the Trap Characters will not work on any previous skylanders games.

Cooper goes back the other other games, he's never been bored of them, unless he gets stuck on a level.

The starter pack comes with 2 characters, we bought 2 more and 2 additional traps. If you buy different characters, I'd buy the different elements. For example, some are water, some are air, undead, etc, it'll say on the box, each element does something different within the game.

We have around 60 characters total I think, way too many! LOL!

Like you get the starter pack and then I'd do this set of traps. The traps are new, so I don't know that you really have to buy extras of those to start with.

Awesome, thanks! I saw all the characters today and a lot of places seem to have deals on for the older characters & everything too lately so I should have no problem getting a little stash of them together for him to play with!

I might be able to relax now I know I can get him those.

Vanessa had good advice, so I won't add any, but I'll just say my kids love their Skylanders toys. They play with the figures outside of the game. They read the books. It's really been a fun game for our family.

Vanessa summed it up perfectly. I would just add that my 6 year old son is obsessed with Skylanders and will be getting Trap Team for Christmas. It seems like it took him months to "beat" the games. He does not tend to go back and replay them but he does play with the characters outside of the video game. He loves them!
