Skincare for oily/combo skin?

I need some serious help. I look like I'm about 14 since I'm breaking out so badly. My skin can get quite oily, but it can also dry out pretty severely in places (especially in this weather). I need a change in my skin care routine, but I don't want to spend $40 on a bottle of face wash. So help me out. What works for you? Links if you've got them!

I use RoAccutane, and omgosh I love this stuff. It works like nothing I've ever seen on the oil slick I call my face. But I think they are discontinueing it in the States after this year.

This book was really helpful, too: SKin Type Solution; she helps you figure out what kind of skin you hvae based on four categories and then teaches you how to care for it.

Oooh, I'm requesting that book from the library. Looks like it should help a lot! I also ordered the Boscia Clear Complexion kit from Sephora. We'll see how it goes!

I've found that finding a decent moisturizer was the solution for my skin.. it was breaking out a lot and feeling just gross-- but also dry and flakey lol you know the typical combo skin.. for the longest time I daren't put lotion on my face.. but I was using aveeno during the hotter months & it worked well enough but it stopped being enough when the cold weather hit.. so now I have been using eucerin (I have sensitive skin) and it's pretty amazing. it did take a few days for my face to adjust but its been really awesome.

Sometimes when it's hormonal (mine was so bad in my 20's and early 30's when I was pregnant and nursing all those years), you have to go on oral medications. If you can, I would go see a dermatologist. Because I was nursing for so long, I wasn't able to then, but they have some amazing products now that are topical too. One is very expensive that we got for my son, but the company gives you the first one free. It worked so well for him.

I was on Roaccutane last year (and previously when I was a teen) - and it definitely does the job, but the number of blood/ pee samples and the extreem dryness were a huge problem. I'm not really surprised that its being discontinued given the side effects, dryness being the extreem mild one!

My dermatologist recommended Nivea's non-oil moisturiser - one of her main points being why put oil on your face when you already have oil there and are trying to get rid of it. All I can say is it is ok, though I don't really think its good enough for a nearly 40 yr old face, especially during the winter - but I find other moisturisers cause me to break out :( Its so hard to find a non-oil containing moisturiser!

http://www.eucerin.com.my/faq/faq_impure_skin.asp this is the specific stuff from eucerin re- acne, combo skin, oil free moisturizers etc. I am just using the original formula because my skin has been THAT dry lol.. but I swear by eucerin now. I used the cream formula and it cleared up a patch of eczema I had on my ankle for over a YEAR in like.. a week. If this stuff can do that.. I think it can prolly do anyhting hahhahahah

also.. haha apparently I want to keep replying... I know they say blah blah blah it's not because you eat chips and chocolate and junky food.. still DO examine your diet. take your vitamins, drink your water, and be healthy..There are tons of causes of acne.. hormonal being one and you'd need to go the route that debra mentioned.. but there are always other contributing factors.. like your liver trying struggling with toxins etc.. when I quit smoking and my body was purging essentially all the crap I was putting in my face went ballistic for a week or two. I also found a long time ago that I had issues with diary.. so try to see if there's a pattern in what is goign on with your skin. if it's clearly hormonal excellent (well not excellent LOL but you know what to do) and so forth..

I have tried SO much stuff.. and for the last few months my skin has cleared up by using cetaphil (so cheap) and i use persa gel 5 on any blemishes I get..
