Simple SS Scrabooker inspiration

I'm getting back into my scrapbooking, but I have found I am no longer willing/liking to do the 36464748 layered pages (even with Cindy's awesome templates I'm not there right now). I am much too slow. I cannot spend 3-4 hours on a LO and not get anywhere. So I'm happy with (right now) simple designs focused mainly on photos with a few papers and a handful of elements. And NOT tiny photos though either, because with how much I've worked on taking better ones, I want to see them!:thumbup:

I have/use a ton of Janet Phillips templates for this (thank you Janet!), but I was wondering if there were any people here that you would say could be inspiration to me as I try to keep it up. They don't have to be Sugarbabes or anything, but it would be a bonus! But mostly just someone with a similar clean, photo-centered style that I can browse in the gallery when I'm feeling "meh" :sleep: about starting a next page!

Yup - I thought Jacinda too. Also check out Misty's gallery - she's made pages lately with her templates that sound right up your alley.
 
Aw, you guys.....thank you! Kim have you had a look at Penny's templates in the store? I love the blocked style, and you can always replace photos with patterned paper. There's too many to list individually, but here are a few I like, and some samples at the bottom.

I do have a bunch of Misty's templates as well. I just get lost in the beyond the simple paper + photo step. Which is why I need inspiration! Like Jacinda showing me her examples of replacing photos with papers. Etc. :thumbup:

If I randomly check the gallery (which is gorgeousness) I end up getting lost and distracted instead of inspired for my own scrapbooking so this really helps!

Adrianka is actually someone (as well as Jacinda) I thought of, but was wondering if there were more.

@Jacinda do you find the pages with only one big photo to be HUGE when printed out? I print 12x12 so I wonder if you do the same or if you are a 8x8 scrapper. I guess I can save those pages for the AWESOME photos LOL.

I think also part of it is having boys who are older. I am kinda tired of "working around" no flowers:glare: (occasionally use but not most layouts) and that has partly led me to the more minimalist element look. But part of me is sad because of all the cool elements in the kits that I am not getting to use, so I really need help balancing it all.

And I do remember CathyZ!! I actually had a few of her books and used her technique a long time ago (7 years!!) when I scrapped our Hawaii vacation. I should find her blog again. :)

Thanks for the encouragement guys :wub: and I really do hope that I can start cranking out some LOs! I am only 4 years behind now! My boys are both readers now (6 and 9) and they are enjoying looking at them and reading what I wrote. But it all ends when they were 2 and 5 and we've done a whole lot since then!!
 
Yep, I print 8x8 or 8.5x8.5 photobooks, so single photo layouts look fine to me. I love that size. It's big enough to see and read everything on the page,even multiphoto layouts, but small enough to have on the coffee table for easy reading. My 12x12 albums look so cumbersome in comparison.

I say don't get hung up on feeling you 'should' use this or that on your layouts. Scrap however you want to. The layouts I've done that were inspired by Cathy Z are still some of my favourite ever, and they didn't use any embellishments. You're the only one that has to like the layout at the end of the day. Your kids will love it regardless, and you'll be less stressed knowing you've recorded those special moments.
 
Thought I'd link you to my 365 blog. There are 3 years of Project 365 layouts - each year slightly different than the last. You'll notice for 2010 and 2011 I kept things SUPER simple, and photo focused. I have to say, reading back through those albums now is such a pleasure because they're all streamlined and tidy, with all the focus on the photos and journalling.

As for templates, Janet's are perfect, and also KCB, Misty and Penny have this type of temps in their stores.

Ok and I am very out of practice of keeping track of my things. Sorry if I forget to list some! I need to get that back into my practice again I guess. But hey four LOs in a week is a new record for me!

See I do like the project life streamlined-ness but I don't want to commit to the project itself! LOL But yes definitely can get inspiration from them!
 
Kim, I like making big-photo layouts, too. I print 12x12 individual pages and I don't find that my pictures are too big - even when they cover most of the page.

I have boys and I used to not use the more "girly" type of elements on my pages of them, but lately I've realized that I pile on the flowers and lace and I love my boy pages! I do tend to stay away from the girlier colors, but I'll even include pops of pink every now and then :)

Thanks for those too! Its funny how everyone's different on what they consider simple, but that is what makes us all unique! I definitely have found some beautiful inspiration from the blog post!
And Celeste's gallery is super! I miss her work here!:crying:

Oh I need to check out your gallery too Kate! And I do use flowers and such with my boys too, but its always a "battle" of my mind when I do. So sometimes I just like to not. Especially when the focus is more on them and what they are doing as older boys. If its a lovey-gushy LO then anything goes! Even pink!

I'm finding now the hardest part is weeding through my extensive stash to start. I really need to go through it and delete some but I can't!! I don't know if I've used a kit yet or twice. And my links in my ACDSee organizer is all messed up so I'm having a hard time using that like I used to. I am sure it will be fine once I'm more in the flow!! And I need to figure out how to tell if I've used a kit or not. Or does it really matter? Hmmm....

Oh, I definitely agree! We all have our own interpretation of 'simple'. I did more simple pages before I started being a Sugarbabe. Mostly because it's easier to stretch a kit that way. :D These days, I am definitely not a simple scrapper. It's actually difficult for me to not keep adding things. :p If you're looking for inspiration, though I do have a couple pages to share.




I miss Celeste, too!!!! She is so inspiring. I still stalk her on Two Peas. ;)

I would totally consider doing PL style if you have a lot of catching up to do. Don't feel like you'd have to do it week by week. Just look at the photos you have & the stories you want to tell, and make a list.

Yes, I've decided. You should start with a list. An hour or two dedicated to organizing your photos & your thoughts (and making a list on paper) will save you HOURS of deciding what you want to scrap, what do you NEED to scrap, what will go with it, blah blah blah.
 
Not so much the simple style, but you said having older boys is leading to mojo issues, what about getting into art journaling?

Yes this sounds like a plan. Part of my trouble is now lack of organization and the backlog. I think I will start with my simple LO templates I have and then maybe add in some PL ones but not do weekly stuff like you said. I need to make a list of the "most important" stories for 2013, 2012, etc. And start from there. I don't do photobooks (shutterfly etc) so I don't have to be in any specific order for scrapping at least!

Oh hes MissKim!! I should rember her name (I'm Kim too!), I think I'm just so rusty and everything I ever knew in the scrapbooking world has leaked from my head!

Thank you everyone for these, I really do appreciate each and every one! You know how sometimes if you are stuck on where to start and you randomly browse someone's gallery it can just spark your creativity and you come up with something completely different from what you saw. Anyway...that is how i feel now. Inspired!:wub:
