Shoe Question

Ok, since I've been out of the military I've been trying to branch out and wear more girly shoes, but they all hurt my feet.

I bought some at Target and I just ended up pushing the heal down and wearing them that way. I just wanted some cute flats. I have a pair of heels that don't hurt, but all most all of the shoes I try on hurt my heal.

I can't go a 1/2 size up because the flop everywhere. Am I the only person with this problem?

Drives me nuts, I want to wear shoes with backs, that aren't sneakers.

The only shoes that hurt my feet are high heals if I wear them for longer than a couple of hours.

First, go to Old Navy and buy a pair of their flats. Then, wear them for like a week straight. Put band-aids on your heels where they rub, cuz they will. But then? CUTEST FREAKING FLATS EVER and soooooooooooooo comfortable.

Plus, they're like $9.99. I want 859340 pairs this season, lol. I bought 1 pair of black to try them out last summer, and now I'm totally hooked on flats for spring/summer (I don't have to wear heels to work, and I take full advantage of that).

Try a better shoe...not "cheap" Target ones. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Target...but not for shoes. Over the last few years I've fallen in love with Land's End shoes...not sure they have what you'd like, but it is worth a look. Some Sears stores carry Land's End and if you mail-order and need to return them you can return them to your local Sears. :)

I use to love heels, then went in the military. Now I stick to boots. I love boots, most go up to my knees. Most of mine have heels and that is how I get my height. I have 2 pair of heels I rarely wear. I want some flats to try but have a hard time finding the perfect pair.

I have thin heels and used to have that problem. I had to buy the right size for the rest of my feet, then add a pad in the heel to make it fit. I'll see if I can link you to an example---back in a minute.

So is the key that you must torture your feet for a week until the shoes are broken in? :p

Because I bought the cutest pair of flats from American Eagle and OMG, I felt like I was living out that Friends episode with Monica and the boots. I decided I'd wear them on a quick trip to Target, probably not more than 15 minutes at most, and by the time I was leaving, my feet hurt so bad I was seriously tempted to take them off and walk barefoot to my car, haha. That was several months ago and I still have marks on my heels from where the shoes completely ripped the back of my heels raw. Now I just look at them hoping they'll magically break themselves in because I can't do that to my feet again. :o

V, I have ended up splurging on a couple of REALLY nice leather heels. Let's face it, humans were not meant to wear huge heels with pointy toes, so they aren't going to be too comfy anyway LOL. I love the new pair I bought, they are like Mary Janes only with a higher, narrower heel.

I have discovered that I love shoes, and sometimes you have to pay a bit more to get something more comfy.

I keep trying with a pair I love, I've worn them 3 times to Church, they kill me. Ugh, at least I'm not the only one. I was starting to think my heals were weird.

oooh i have been eying Old Navy's flats. haven't bought any yet but i think they are in my future. they are very comfy, just from trying them on at the store. i too would like to start dressing more girly. shoewise right now i have been wearing my black converse. like everyday with jeans and tshirts. now that spring is almost here i can't wait to start dressing up a little more girly.

I bought some of the new crocs that are flats and I love those, they don't look like crocs. I need soft heals I think.

That's what I had to do! Lol! I just kept wearing them because they were so stinkin CUTE! And they made me feel more girly than wearing sneakers 24/7. I bought a leather pair at Target and had to do the same thing. All those sorts of shoes seem to have really narrow heels, so I've decided to suffer for the cuteness and power through, lol.

Have you tried adding insoles into the shoes? I do that with a lot of my high heels and that seems to help. Not so much with the rubbing but it adds some extra padding to combat the pressure high heels put on your feet.

Lol! Perhaps I'll have to give them another shot when our weather gets warmer then because I see them in my closet and imagine all the outfits they'd be perfect with. Although this time I'd make sure to add some kind of extra padding between the back of the shoe and my heel BEFORE I wear the shoes, haha.

You can try wearing them socks too, just around the house. I've done that before and it helps too. Less rubbing, and it helps break them in and kinda get your feet used to them.

You can also look for brands that are known for being softer and more comfortable. I'm all for cute, girly shoes (hate clothes, LOOOVE shoes), but I won't wear anything that isn't comfortable from day 1. I've gotten some I love from Soft Spots and Lifestride. If you have a DSW near you, they carry both brands at good prices. And now I really want to go shoe shopping!

As a skater my feet have seen it all! My feet are so ugly becasue of skating! lol

Anyways another recommendation is to try moleskin - put that on your heal before wearing and it should help with the rubbing.

I have had trouble fitting into shoes most of my life, and until recently I have sworn by Easy Spirit shoes - they have simple and girly and comfortable. I have also added Clarks onto that list, particularly their sandals. Both are worth the extra money you spend ($50-90/pair), especially if you can find an outlet store nearby. I would recommend them for normal to slightly large feet.

Unfortunately, I'm now having to add orthotics which makes my hard to fit feet (10 1/2 Wide) even more impossible to fit. I now have to look for extra-deep on top of the hard size - which means specialty stores with dress shoes costing between $200-260 - gulp!

Although Clarks have some definitely old-lady shoes, they also can have cute ones, and I've discovered it's worth it to pay the extra money for good shoes. Then you can shop all day and not worry about your feet. :)
